at Mountain Gear Summary: Most ice axes require a break-in period - not the tool, the user. It takes a few swings and couple miles to get used to tool.
Not the Vanoise. Right off the shelf, I put it to the test the very next day - ended up off route and subsequently used that tool for everything. Each time, it performed great.
Tying a leash to the head doesn't interferre with grip. It's comfortable to lean on while climbing a steep slope. I prefer the spike on the Vanoise to the spikes on Grivel or BD tools
All in all, a great purchase when so many ice axes look alike Customer Service: Never had a problem Similar Products Used: SMC Himalayan, REI tool, BD Alpamayo, Grivel Race, and others I can't remember.

at altrec.com Summary: Good ice axe. I've used it on several climbs. Very light, excellent pick, but the adze isn't very solid. I've not yet used it to cut steps, but it seems like it might not be strong enough to chop thick ice. Overall a very good axe for what I've used it for. Similar Products Used: Carried Bd's, Rei M-axe, and Grivel racing axe.
