They developed an I-beam construction to provide longitudinal rigidity and to give shape to the pad. The I-beam construction allows air to flow freely in and out, and reduces inflation time to a quick two minutes. The Air Core Mummy pads stuff to the size of a Nalgene water bottle and weighs a mere 19-24 ounces, (depending on size) yet provides a whopping 2.5" thick backcountry bed.
