I purchased this Eclipse compass over one year. Here in Europe it is sold as "Silva" brand compass. It is very accurate, to less than 1 degree or 10 mils and well made. Since the clinometer is accurate to 1 degree it is very useful to measure angles of slopes and distances to mountains using tables carried in back of compass. The tables in back of compass also have much useful information. Also it is made to be used with GPS and has grid tables. This compass lacks luminous markings to see at night that I would like or even better small battery light or beta light to see in darkness. Similar Products Used: Silva Polaris |

Great compass, my personal favorite. If you need a sighting compass & mapping compass combined this is the one-the circle-on-circle dial is a lot easier to see in the mirror than the traditional needle & orienting arrow setup on other compasses. With its rubber armor it's a very sturdy compass, and it has good UTM roamer scales if you have GPS. It's big & bulky, of course, not for those who just want an emergency pocket-size job for rough bearings. Similar Products Used: Silva Ranger |
