A good compass, but the GPS plotter function is outdated. The Suunto was designed back when SA made GPS considerably more inaccurate, and it has 200m confidence circles for plotting position. This is a considerably larger area than the accuracy GPS is now capable of (30 meters). A 200-meter circle is a pretty wide area; you could easily miss a camp or other small target in heavy forest or brush. The dial is marked in 2-degree spaces and is harder to read than the magnified markings on the Brunton 8096, plus the needle doesn't align as fast as the circle-on-circle method. For a dedicated GPS plotter compass, most people would probably be happier with the Brunton 8096 or 8099.
