"If the shoe fits, where it" is what I can say about a Jansport
backpack. If you like external frame packs, like me, and if
the Jansport fits your frame, then buy it. You won't find
a better backpack anywhere at any price.

I have owned a Jansport pack, similar to the current Rainier,
for nearly twenty years. I have carried loads between 50 and 70
pounds on backpacking trips lasting up to three weeks. The
pack fits me perfectly, and a 50-pound load is really no problem
at all for my six-foot, 150-pound frame. And don't worry about a
Jansport being too top heavy. I have done cross-country trekking,
boulder-hopping, and even snow-shoeing with a Jansport.

I have just purchased the Olympic, which is very similar to the
Yosemite, but about eight ounces lighter. The only reason why I
bought it was I wanted a new pack; my only Jansport had at least
another ten years on its frame.

Most Internal Frame Packs: They don't
fit my frame as well as a Jansport.
Besides, I don't climb mountains or
go ski touring.

Great pack. I have been on five 50 milers with it packed to the top(about 75-80 lbs) I was the first one to camp every night and I had to go back down the trail to cary some of the other peoples packs. I love the hip belt, it works great. This pack is worth every penny.

I bought a $50 pack before and it just didn't compare. if you are going to go on real backpacking trips you should buy the Yosemite.

my bag is a older model, had it for over 3 years, light weight, good price, got it for $170, has lots of straps to hold external items, smart on the fly adjustable suspension hip belt that works in distrubting load for hiking up or down, sometimes bar across back touches back, don't have full range of arm swing while hiking because of side pockets very annoying

The suspension belt was one of the main reasons I purchased this pack. It allows multiple levels of comfort whether a person is going up hill or down, or even on a flat grade, it allows for a person to be comfortable. I enjoyed the space this pack provides also.

This is my first pack in, well, many years. I purchased it because it was a lot of pack for the money. I was less concerned about long term durability since I will not likely be camping/packing often. That said, I am very please with the frame and the options for attaching modular items. Plenty of room inside and the torso adjustments make for a great fit. Workmanship appears yoman-like...yet it's too early to tell how it will hold up. I have a Jansport Day-Pack....ingenioius thing with a rubber bottom and it has served me well, very durable. I only wish the pack had come with a chest strap (which I am now adding).
