This headlamp has a serious design problem since the battery cover is not durable enough for backcountry reliability. The cover is held on by 2 tiny plastic tabs about 1 mm thick and with the strain of the spring pressure and from opening the case it's only a matter of time before they crack and the cover fails. Mine cracked after little use and it's a very cheesy way to design a battery cover. Since I bought an LED headlamp the PT solo is obsolete for my uses anyway.

I used to really think this lamp was a star until the led's came out. I still is a good lamp but can't say enough about the new competition. Works and have had no trouble but it is heavy and just can't 'hold a candle' to the new styles out there. In its day it was great.

We've had two of these go out on us for no reason. We threw the Princeton Tecs out and bought Petzels.

This headlamp is really sturdy, waterproof, but also heavy. the strap system was very comfortable, the battery cover was secure and sturdy also. i love the adjustable beam angle. it''s kind of annoying to only be able to hike with one reflector at a time, cause who''s actually going to bring the spare reflector? the batteries lasted pretty long for a headlamp when i bought them (8hrs), but since the LED lights came out, i''m itching to try one of those. overall, a good but heavy lamp. i''d probably go with a LED lamp next time.

Bulletproof, simple design, versatile and waterproof. The Petzl lights feel cheap by comparison and the Princeton outshines any other light I've used. I bought a Matrix LED insert for mine and now have three options to balance light intensity with power consumption.

Great headlamp. For the price it is a great value. I found this light to be brighter than the low setting of the Petzl Duo.(which is a $68 headlamp) It also comes with a higher powered bulb. I tested this and the Princeton Vor Tec and in my opinion, this one is the best value. Plus, with Princeton you get a lifetime warranty and Petzl only offers a 3 year warranty.

An awesome light, i bought this light a number of years ago and have used it exstensively all over the world. It has never failed me. I have the older model which is basically the same except it has a different colored headband. It works very well in a night hiking situation or if u love to stay up late reading in camp. I will be using it for my upcoming AT thru-hike.
Its a great light that is of high quality. I highly reccommend it!

I have this headlight for almost a year now, and it has given me many hours of "lighted" moments. I am also a professional landscape photographer The Tec Solo had relieved me from many tight situations, such as looking for the correct f-stop and shutter speed on my camera.

It went through a snowstorm last winter, and I though it was going to die on me at that moment. But, it just went on. Despite of some negative reviews of this headlight here, I still recommend it to anyone who is serious about getting a reliable headlight.

I can't believe anyone has anything good to say about this product, other than it is marketed well. I used mine for a number of after-work night hiking and snowshoe excursions in all conditions. The switch started working intermitantly after only a couple of outings. The lack of focusing capability is a serious defect if you actually want to use it to hike and orienteer. The battery cover is both difficult to remove and then, when it does yield, flies off so you can start searching for it. Thankfully, REI gave me full credit and I got a Petzl Arctic which is the only way to go in my opinion. The 4.5v battery units last so long and provide so much more light that there is no comparison.

This is a great headlamp for the money. Compared to my friend's Petzel, the batteries last longer and the lamp is lighter. It is not quite as bright but for my money, this is the best buy out there. The straps are comfortable, and I wore it SCUBA diving and it didn't leak (I was skeptical even though it was rated to 1000 ft.)
