My Rockies pack has given me excellent service in the mountains. With my old pack, I had to strap items externally. This pack is flexible enough to adjust to any backpacking load. For all loads, I put my Thermarest inside the main compartment (my previous pack required strapping the pad outside).

The main, top loading compartment is so cavernous, I tend to lose items in it. The straps are great; they haven't cut into my shoulders yet. The hipbelt is a little too long but easily adjustable.

The fabric may not be the sturdiest available but I try not to throw my gear on the ground anyway. My old packbag was made of sturdier material but the straps disintegrated after a year hiking in the Southwest. With Jansport, I know from past experience, any repair work will be done to my satisfaction.

Fabric-wise, sacrifices had to be made for weight savings and, for my money (I didn't buy this on sale), I made an excellent choice.

Customer Service

Jansport repaired my old daypack free of charge, sending me confirmations upon reciept and when repair work began. I got my pack back ahead of schedule. Customer satisfaction taken to the extreme.

i HAVE ONLY USED MY ROCKIES FOR ONE EXTENDED TRIP SO FAR, HOWEVER AT THE END OF THE TRIP WE DECIDED TO GO CLIMB ELBERT. I CARRIED 50 POUNDS UP TO 14000 FT AND IF YOU HAVE EVER DONE ONE OF THESE TRAILS YOU KNOW THAT ITS NOT EASY ON A PACK. I WAS EXTREMELY SATISFIED WITH MY ROCKIES, THE WAY IT COULD ADJUST WAS FANTASTIC. IT CAN HOLD MORE GEAR THAN YOU CAN USE IN A WEEK AND THE POCKETS MAKE IT A SNAP TO LOAD. THE ONLY PROBLEM THAT I SEE IS ITS SO BIG YOU TEND TO LOSE ITEMS INSIDE THE PACK. MY BROTHER IN LAW CARRIED A TIOGA UP HTE SAME TRAIL AND HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT DIGGING INTO HIM. AFTER CARRYING A ROCKIES I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO A EXTERNAL PACK. THEY SEEM SO CONSTRICTING IN THAT THEY WON'T MOVE WITH YOU'RE BODY.

I have the Rockies tall - 7,000 cu. in. An excellent deal. The JanSport replaces an old external frame pack which was too small. I really appreciate the quality, comfort, adjustability, and price! A little sway with 60 lbs on board, but that MAY be my spine, not the pack!

Excellent adjustments, fit, and comfort. Appears to be very durable. No problems.

I've had my Rockies for about four months now and so far I have been very happy with it. I like the numerous pockets it has on the outside for quick access to water or a map. It is great for the organization obsessed. The are a number of straps to adjust that allow it to fit my back.. One thing to watch, because this is a huge pack, I have to school myself not to fill it all the way up. You have to pay special attention to balancing your load, otherwise you culd spend the day leaning to the side. the shoulder straps and hip belt are well padded. I can't speak for the long term durability, but I put it through some pretty tough hikes and it has held up well. Especially good choice if you are looking for cheap pack that doesn't feel like one.

Customer Service

I had a few questions about the pack, and Jansport was quick to reply by email.

Got this one on a sale (I am the dealmeister, hehe) Paid less than $100... I found all the pockets to be adequate. Construction and durability is OK- I have not gone hardcore on this pack yet. It can hold enough gear for a week. Good comfort. A wee bit shifty if not packed well. Great for what I paid- heheh

I have had no problems with this pack. It has plenty of space to carry everything and anything. As far as the question of its durability, I have not had any troubles. I like the price also, not bad for a pack that does the same as all the other packs costing twice as much. If you are some one who needs a good pack but is limited to a budget, this is the way to go!!!
