I've had this pack for three years, and had no problems. It's my pack of choice for technical climbs, climbs on 14ers, canyoneering trips, my days on the river, long weekends away from home, skiing and snowshoeing. It's highly comfortable, adjusts well to large/small loads, and the side/top pocket provide easy access to your food, maps, and other essentials. The pack is designed to work with any hydration system. I use the pack hard and have encountered only one problem-- I recently wore through one of the drawstrings to cinch the pack shut. Easily fixed. If you have a long torso, you might have problems fitting this pack properly.

The Moraine is the best short trip pack I could find that had ski slots. I carry skiis or pack rods now and then and this feature was a must. I looked at the Redwing and preferred its panel loading but the ski slots were too tight and the side pockets were cramped and not tall enough for a taller one liter bottle. I also needed a pack that fits my longer torso. The large size Moraine fits me very well where others would not. I didn't need a PHD in strapology to use this pack unlike many other packs on the market. I guess it is a rather traditional design. The workmanship is excellent and I know Kelty will fix it if it messes up. The only thing I don't like that much is the deep top loading sack but I knowingly accepted that for the other features I needed. This pack is really comfortable but might not be if it was overloaded.

i dont now what thoses two idiots are talking about.....30 lbs rrrrriiiiiiggggggghhhhhtttttttt! like way more..... i carry my skis, ski boots, and all my other gear which like way the heck more than 30lbs and i havent had one problem...heck its a excellent bag......its the right size for ski trips, weekend hikes, vacations...i would buy a another kelty if i ever needed to....good quality stuff......

I am very surprised at the reviews. I had an external frame pack that was getting old and I decided to look for an internal frame pack. I tried most of the brands and they did not fit well. I was almost going to buy another external frame until I tired the Kelty. It was very comfortable, even though it is not adjustable for torso length. I was very surprised considering that the Kelty cost half of what the other packs were selling for. I was trying to choose between the Redwing and Morraine and decided on the Morraine because of the collar which provided some extra space if needed.

I have used it on many multi-day backpacking trips and found it to be as comfortable on the trail as it was in the store. I also found that I really did not need the extra room (although I generally carry the least amount of stuff among my friends), Knowing this, I would have chosen the Redwing because of the panel loading. I have not had any problems with the pack.

I purchased this pack as an intro to internal frames (and it was on sale for $70). My first outing found me in the BWCA for four days. While it's not exactly a canoe pack, it held up to the rigorous portages and terrain fairly well. The construction on the pack was better than other reviewer's experience - since the BWCA trip, I've used it on a number of overnights/longweekends, and with 35 lbs of gear, there's not one structural defect. The frame needs to be adjusted (and I do mean adjusted) for a really comfy fit, but if you spend the time it will be worth it. As an entry-level internal frame for long weekends, it performs admirably, but anything longer than 4 days I would recommend a larger pack. All in all, decent value for the price (read: if you pay more than $80, it's too much)...

This pack failed the first time out. The shoulder strap started ripping out on the second of a three day trip. Rather than risk ripping it all of the way, I cut my trip one day short and met the other guys the following day. I was carrying around 30 pounds -- no excuse for this to happen. Don't but this one, even if you can for $50.

What was worse about the experience, was that I asked Kelty to replace it with a new pack -- it was 5 days old. They sent it back supposedly repaired - it was not. It has assumed its permanent resting place on a shelf in my garage.

Nice pack for weekend trips and loads less than thirty pounds. Not very adjustable (compared with other more capacious packs that I own) but it fits me well. A good deal for around 70 dollars.Workmanship a little questionable though.
