Just bought this bag used was still in great shape .Plan to use it to go down the Grand Canyon next November.Got the red cloud for my wife.Its alittle big but still fits her great. For 51.00 used how could I pass it up two or three trips will pay for its self.

I'm an avid backpacker in the Colorado Rockies as well as Oregon and have found the Red Cloud to be a terrific value! Great all around pack with wonderful support and comfort. It's a bit large so I might downsize to the Agile, though I'll miss the top lid fanny pack conversion on the Red Cloud (great feature). I'd also prefer two ice ax loops as I've used it for ice climbing and nobody carries one ax unless mountaineering, in whihc case, it's often in your hand.

just wanted to add to previous review. the RedColud 5400 doesn't have a port or hydration pouch, but i made one my self wit duct tape =) also the mesh pockets don't hold nalgens very well, but they are usful for other things need to be in reach. But even with its draw backs this still one of my favorite packs i ever used. Awsome pack. Good Work KELTY.

I bought the Redcloud 5400 for my Philmont trip. After see my friends I got one. Its an all aroundd good pack. The suspension system is very comfortable, and easily adjustable. While backpacking I have never gotten a sore spot or chaffing because of this pack. It has mulitple pockets for good organzation. The pack is very spacious and can compress pretty small. Although the lid pouch coverts to a fanny pack, its had difficult to take off and on. lack of lashing points accpet for the daisy chain on lid pouch. All around a good pack for a good price. Would reccomend it for longer trips (About 5 days) but good for weekends. A good bigener pack.

Being an avid Colorado backpacker, I find the Red Cloud 5400 more than adequate to cover my needs for over night to week treks. I think the adjustable system is well designed, yet the lack of any adjustment on the front chest strap renders it almost useless. I compare this pack to my colleagues' Gregory and find it comparable, but at half the cost. Also, the detachable fanny pack/top notch could have been designed better other than simply hooking under the stays.

A little big for my use. I have had no problems with this bag. I would definitely purchase this one again. Very comfortable. The webbing for the water bottles is a little difficult for me to reach but I can manage.

We bought a new pack last year, a Kelty Redcloud 5400, and had an older pack , for our trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. We travelled 52 miles with 32 portages. The Kelty was awesome. In fact, I would carry the other pack first at the portages because I knew once I got that carried, the Kelty was a cinch. We had divided up the weight pretty evenly at first and ended up putting more in the Kelty because it carried it so much better. This year, we are definitely investing in another Kelty, probably the Redcloud 6400. Great packs!

Just bought the Red Cloud 5400 this spring, and took it to Shenandoah Nat''l park. I have to say, wearing this pack is no worse than wearing a camelbak. Matter of fact, during our trip, we base camped on top of Hazel Mt.for two nights and a day, and I took my camelbak hawg (which I keep inside my pack for just such an occasion)on a dayhike to go check out a cave. I swear, when the day was through, I felt more sore from the hawg than I did from the Kelty!!! (that''s not very sore folks) Great space, bunches o'' pockets, clever layout, and most importantly, probably the most comfortable pack I have ever worn. Allowing for what a wuss I am, that''s saying something! ;) Really though, great job on the pack, and excellent workmanship to boot. The only thing that was missing was the usual feeling that my arms were going to fall off by the first half of the week. I would buy this pack again, and if it ever gets eaten by bears, I''ll buy one just like it.

I recently purchased the Kelty RedCloud 5400 after renting from EMS over the past years. I did my research on all the different packs. Like all the others mentioned, it is an amazing pack for the money. Somehow i managed to scam this pack for only $85. I could''nt pass up the offer. I used it first on a week-long canoe trip to Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario. After hiking, climbing and portaging with it on my back for at least ten miles a day, i found there to be no flaws with the pack. It offers great amounts of space, combined with great durability and solid build quality. Nice waistbelt and shoulder straps contributed to almost no pain at all. Some of the great features include the ski holders and external pockets. If you dont like this pack, i dont know what say.

i did about 2 months of research before i bought the Kelty RedCloud 6400. i went to a big outdoor store and tried on the most expensive packs first (not that i planned on buying a costly one). this was just to see how they justified the price. i like the 6400 because when i put it on, i had head room; it sits high on my back, lots of straps to get the most comfort, wide hip belt and padded in the right places. even though this is an internal frame pack, i was surprised and pleased when i raised my hands and arms to hold the top and sides of the pack to adjust it better, and there were 'handles'! it has aluminum support bars (thats what i use em for) to hold on to when you're arms are tired and you want to hang on to something. THIS is what sold me. i didn't really like the color though,(red and black with yellow straps) and i think they should have made the pick- up strap a brighter color so you can see it to grab it when you are taking the pack off (which is usually a fast motion). i've taken it out 2 or 3 times already for the 'test' and the first time loaded it with 70 lbs. didnt feel like it. felt like 45. i'm serious. cause my partners pack (my old one) had 45 lbs in it and when he tried it, he thought mine weighed less than his! (i had a bathroom scale with us just to quell any disbeliefs). one other thing i dont like: even though it has 2 side mesh pockets for water containers, i can't reach them and return them after i get a drink. this is probably because it sits so high on my back. but on a scale from 1 to 10, 1 bad 10 great---i'd give this pack an 8½. oh, and i put all my food in the top flap which is removable from the rest of the pack (another great feature) now i dont have to dig thru my pack to snack.
