I HAVE USED THIS PACK COUNTLESS TIMES AND FOUND IT TO BE AN EXCELLENT PACK. THE USLESS WATER BOTTLE POUCHES ON THE SIDES MAKE ME WONDER. THIS PACK REALLY IS A PERFECT SIZE FOR 1-4 DAY HIKES. |

Great pack! But, I really miss my old style redwing (sadley stolen.) Anyway, I can fit enough for 3-4 days easily. I do also miss the padded waist belt, but it is nice that these will tuck away into zippered pouches. Overall, rugged. I am hard on gear and this one hasn''t ripped or stretched a seam yet. So far the Kelty Tempest has been great. I could fit every thing i needed for a five day trip, and, with all the straps and loops, you can add tons of gear. I put a pad on the waist strap so it would be more comfortable. I have also gone on a couple 3 days and day hikes with it. Its been good for all. Great and durible product after all. I bought this pack when they first introduced it. My pack had a padded waist belt! I can't fathom why they stopped making it with this feature! I took it on an overnight with a tent, sleeping bag, & other gear. (about 35lbs. fully loaded) It worked great. since it has loops on top & bottom of the pack you can carry a lot of extras. Great pck overall that can tackle a variety of duties. Definetly can't take super-heavy loads, since the hip belt is not padded. Worked great for my weekend trips and overnight hikes. Similar Products Used: None |

Just returned from my first trip with my new Tempest, it was the most comfortable trip I have ever embarked on. The build of the pack and the way it traces the back is unmatched by any pack I have ever owned. The shoulder straps are perfectly contoured, the waist belt (even though it is unpadded) never bothered me during a whole weekend of sloshing through wet trails and mud. Similar Products Used: None |

I LOVE this pack. I can't beleive other people only rate this pack as a 1-2 day pack. If you are truely doing the ultra light thing it will stretch out to 5 days max. Similar Products Used: L.L. Bean |

A great 1-2 pack that I also use on a daily basis to carry books on campus. But is just a 1-2 day pack. The hourglass daisy chain down the front and lash points on top and bottom call like sirens to load the pack inside and out. So I did. I made ONE three day hike to the Red River Gorge and it was too much. I had the pack over loaded and the shoulder straps dug into the top of my pack since the hip belt it just for looks and takes no weight of your shoulders. But, kept in its element, it is a great pack. It fits snugly, has good and useful features, and would be great for day hikes and overnighters. It has good construction and seems very durable logging many a mile across UK's campus with a hefty Organic Chemistry book. Similar Products Used: JanSport Rainier |

This backpack is the best made of its kind. In the 1-1 12 day catagory i would give it a 10 of 10! The side pockets are extremely useful for longer trips, however, i do whish the zippers were a bit larger to allow for bulkier items to get in. It has ample places to strap extra gear, sleeping bag ect. I only wish it had a hydration sytem built in. Oh, well. Overall a great pack. Customer Service Kelty is great! This is a nice short hike pack. In my attempt to go ultralight I found this pack a perfect blend between weight and capacity. It is a top loader with a top pocket over to of the opening . The top pocket is small but can be used for raingear and such. The two side pockets are decent size but the zippers allow only limited access. The main body is very roomy. The shoulder straps are fine but the waist belt leaves a little to be desired. overall size is a bit small (I am 5' 10" and it is a bit small on me). Construction seems good but not bombproof. It has many lash on spots but is limited by it wieght carrying capacity. Stifness is produced by a framesheet (removable). I use the framesheet pocket to house my camelback bladder as well. The pack does have trouble with heavy loads. Anything over 30 pounds and you start to feel the strain. I would recommend this to someone with a smaller torso such as women and chidren and for people who carry more bulk than weight. Similar Products Used: Kelty Dune |
