Have had the pleasure to use this pack on more than a few occasions whilst backpacking. Decided to buy a new pack, because my old pack was making my back sweaty. This is definately NOT the case with this pack. Its level of comfort is superb. Most of its weight when filled is distributed to your hips making a very comfortable ride for your back. The harness Crossbow system irradicates nearly all sideways movement whilst walking. The Pack compresses down the load enabling it to be closely held to your back, whilst remaining slender in width to allow you to go anywhere without worrying you will hit anything or anyone with it. The Hydration bottle pouch is very useful too on long journeys without water. Its defeinaletly worth paying that little extra.

This is a great pack for people 5'5" or taller. Very large capacity, and more suited for longer trips of 5 or more days. I filled this pack with 49 pounds of gear and my hips or back never got sore, even after 12 miles. My husband was whining with his 51 pounds and a different pack. The suspension system is awesome and fully adjustable to suit any torso length. The pack is tough and rugged, and hydration bladder compatible which is a plus if you like hands-free drinking. The hip belt is nice and thick, so no bruises. The only thing I don't like about Lowe Alpine is their top lid doesn't come off and double as a day pack for side trips. So if we ever want to take a day hike, we just cram all we need into my husband's -- luckily he has a removable top from his Gregory. Not many pockets on the outside, but you know a real pack is supposed to be stuffed like a sleeping bag in it's stuff sack -- with every bit of space being used. The crossbow system works by automatically angling the heavy items toward your back.
When using a pack, I value comfort above all else. This one rocks!

I've had this pack for about 18 months now;I've no idea how long it's been out in the states but here it's been around for about 3 years. I actually bought this pack one day prior to leaving for a month long expedition to Uganda. The most abuse the pack took was on a five day ascent of Mt. Elgon[4321 metres]. The pack performed superbly,bearing loads of up to 25kg with ease and comfort. The back system in particular is excellent[Lowe's APS 5]. The expanding pockets were a godsend,as was the floating lid,since my loads were not always conveniently shaped or sized. The fabric is very tough[Lowe's Packcloth] and the buckles and zips take a lot of abuse. I have quite a long back so I generally have a hard time when buying packs but the versatility of the Liberty won me over. Load carrying is comfortable and well balanced on both descent and ascent,this was particularly important since I crossed rope bridges and ladders in conditions thet sometimes felt more like via ferrata than regular trekking. The pockets are accesible and the inside lid pocket in particular deserves special mention since it kept some very important documents dry when I forgot to put them back into their protective wallet in nearly torrential rain. This is a seriously durable rucksack that should last you a long time. Because of it's slim profile and compression straps it is also not a bad buy climbing and mountaineering. It also looks good. In summary,everyone should have one: Go and buy one now.
