Strength:

I really like the BioSpan system. It just snugs the pack right into your lower back and eliminates any swagging around. You can feel the pack just meld with your body when you snug up those BioSpan straps Residential Dumpster.

Weakness:

Needs a better compression system.

I had been looking for a climbing pack for a while when I came across the Marmot Scree. It had most of the features i was looking for and the price was right...$125 on sale at REI. This pack has some nice technical features that make it a nice climbing pack: : ice axe loops, dual daisy chains, haul loop, wand pockets, and approx. 3000 ci. The fabric between the daisy chains is re-enforced works nicely for attaching crampons straight to the pack. The hipbelt is not uncomfortable when worn over a harness...although it would be nice if the pack had gear racking loops on the hipbelt...but I guess once can''t have everything... The suspension system is comfortable and fits very well and despite the seemingly minimal hip belt, the pack carries weight rather well...although I wouldn''t push it past 35 or 40 lbs. That being said, the pack carried winter climbing gear well: ice axes, crampons, light rack, 60m rope, food/water, and extra layers(down belay jacket, shell, extra gloves, etc.) The body of the pack is slim fitting so that it moves well while climbing. However, this also contributes to my one complaint about the pack...the opening to the main compartment is very narrow. This makes it a little awkward to search and retrieve bulky items from the pack. Also, for the extreme alpinists out there, because the body and the opening are so narrow, it make it almost impossible to sqeeze one''s legs into the bag thus rendering it almost useless as a makeshift bivy sack. This last bit is a bit of a moot point...If I expect to have to bivy for a night while climbing, I just bring slightly larger pack where I can carry both my sleeping bag and bivy sack. Overall, this is a really nice pack for climbing, and if you can get it cheap, it is a great buy.

I'd never used or owned a Marmot pack before I bought my Scree so I was kind of going out on a limb. But I have heard they make good equipment, the price was right, and it looked like a good pack. I got the black one from rei-outlet.com

I really REALLY like the BioSpan system. It just snugs the pack right into your lower back and eliminate 90% of any swaggling around. You can feel the pack just meld with your body when you snug up those BioSpan straps.

The hipbelt and shoulder straps are very comfy and I like the "Wonton" padding on the back because it is comfy and offers pretty good ventilation.

The material is really tough, and the workmanship is consistently thorough too. It's got nice features like the marigold color lining that lets you see your gear better when you're getting it out.

My only beef with this pack is that it needs a little better compression system. For its height, a third set of lateral compression straps would help out, and maybe a little stiffer backplane. It is a little limber when it's not fully packed. My other packs (ArcTeryx, Dana) have much better compression by comparison.

I guess this pack gets a 4-4.5 rating overall. For the price I paid for it though, it's a good deal.

I'm thinking about getting the Marmot Traverse as well -- it looks like it may have better compression (with 3 sets of straps) and it's bigger.

Scree fits me like a glove. The Biospan system is not just a marketing term. Good suspensions and lots of room for stuff to carry inside and outside on a few-day-trip. Typical climbing model with inside access only from the top. Sometimes that is irritating, but makes the pack last longer anyway (no broken zippers). Worth every penny and more
