I first met Danner boots when I was in the Army at Fort Bragg in 1987 when I wore a pair of "Fort Lewis" boots. I bought my pair of Danner "Siskiyou" boots in 1999 specifically for a climb on Washington's Mount Rainier. I had to wear them consistently to break them in, but once broke they feel like tennis shoes (heavy tennis shoes!). My feet never got cold or wet in them. Well, here it is 10 years later and these boots are as solid as the day I got them. Some sole wear, a few small cracks in the leather (which I could have prevented by better care), and still warm and waterproof. These are the best boots I've had, and hey - $210 for 10 years of wear! Where else can you wear a good boot for $10 a year?! And I wear these boots everyday, not just for mountaineering. It's just too bad Danner discontinued them. The Mountain Light II may be comparable (not sure), but either way Danner is the way to go. Customer Service in my experience Danner customer service has been excellent Similar Products Used: Danner "Fort Lewis" |

I have heard great things about Danner for years. So, needing a new pair of boots, I picked up a pair of these. These boots are well made, look great, the soles are heavy and hard... Not to mention the boots are heavy also. However, I found some problems with mine. The rivets for the laces kept digging into my right foot, maybe I got a bum pair, I don't know. I also felt that the tounge could use some padding -or- at least a thicker, softer leather on the inside. |

Great 6"" boot. Don't even bother with synthetic if you want to own a pair of boots for a while. Danner makes an extremely durable boot with an all leather upper and lugged sole, something impossible to find these days. Plus Danners have a GoreTex liner which is fine if its there, but doesn't really matter to me otherwise because they are LEATHER. Think about that when you fork out nearly the equivalent price for a pair of synthetic or mixed boot that touts a GT liner. THE GT LINER WILL WEAR OUT IN 2-3 YEARS. Then you're stuck with a pair of boots that can't possibly be waterproof ever again. (My advice is, if you do decide on a synthetic boot, save your bucks on the GT version and buy a pair of watersocks SealSkins, GTX, etc.) Leather boots can be treated to be waterproof, regardless of the GT liner. Sure, they're heavy (these weigh in at about 4 lbs/pr), but that's because they're so damn burley. If you've ever done any serious hiking with a serious load, you know you need foot and ankle support. Danner delivers. And if you've ever humped around with a 50 or 60lb pack on jagged rock or granite, you know that unless the soles are STIFF, you will feel every pointy surface you walk over while you're doing it and that evening, too. I have no doubt these boots will serve me well into my mid-life crisis (I'm 27 now). Customer Service Great, great, great. Drop them a line and tell 'em how much you love their product (if that's true) and receive a bounty including nice return words, t-shirts and keyrings.
