I have the newer ones, they are all-leather; not like the pic above. These are GREAT boots. Sturdy enough for extended-weekend backpacking trips, VERY cushioned & roomy, plenty of room for thick SmartWool sox. Waterproof. Good traction, even on wet ground. (Maybe they have improved these boots since the above pic was taken?) I can't say enough about these boots. If you have a narrow foot, you might need to buy an after-market insole or wear 2 pairs of sox to take up some space. I have wide feet & love them. Customer Service L.L. Bean customer service is simply the best. Similar Products Used: None |

Great day-hikers in dry weather. If rocks are wet, forget about it. They are durable. I used them for three summers before any noticeable? wear. I have flat feet and they fit me fine. I have the gore-tex model and would classify them as water-resistant. Worth the money. Similar Products Used: None |

I've had these boots for a few years but just put them to the test last month. I have a narrow foot and selected them mostly for the fit. They don't grip real well. I survived one 26-mile hike down and up the Old Bright Angel trail, but two days later I slipped and twisted my knee on the North Kaibab. It was not a tricky situation, the soles would simply not hold against the loose stones. I'm looking for something with better gripability. Customer Service Have used LL Bean products for many years. Quality is generally excellent. Similar Products Used: None |

I have had these boots for about a year and I think they are great. I have the fabric/leather combination, so they were very easy to break in and have held up through a lot of long hikes. I would recommend them most for medium length (10 to 25 mile) hikes over light to moderate trails. These boots handled a 45 pound load well on a three day. They give great support and are extremely well-cushioned. The only thing I would change about it would be to give it a deeper tread. Customer Service L.L. Bean has always given great service, they are responsive and don't hassle you about returns. It's a pleasure to do business with them. Similar Products Used: None |

This is the second pair of Knife Edge boots that I have owned. This model was updated from the previous and greatly improved. The new vibram sole has much better traction, especially on loose surfaces and better mud release. The support is much improved, and the lacing system is much better. The boot is extremely waterproof. Customer Service The previous Knife Edge boots began to leak after 2 years. No questions aske, LL Bean returned the boots with the current model, and reimbursed shipping. |

I actually have the '99 mid cut, non gore-tex knife edge boots that cost $79. I don't like gore-tex boots because they make my feet sweat too much. Anyway, these boots are very comfertable and durable. I use them mostly for day hikes and light overnighters. I would recommend these for anyone who has large volume feet. People with narrow feet might find themselves floating around in them though. Customer Service I returned my ultralight hikers to L.L. Bean and got these instead. They were happy to help me and I had no problems. Similar Products Used: L.L. Bean Ultralight Hikers-not enough padding around the ankle to prevent the eyelets from digging into my ankle. Returned them. |

I'm not real happy with these boots. I bought them for a light duty trail boot for day trips or shorter backpacking trips. The boots are super comfortable and very waterproof(duh, Gore-Tex). However, the tread is so shallow that on anything but fairly flat dirt trails the boot slip like crazy. They don't grip on mud or rocks and forget about snow. I use them primarily as my around town boots or for snowshoeing (where traction isn't an issue). Customer Service It's the same old LLBean money back deal. Similar Products Used: None |

Good boots. Very comfortable for my narrow feet, but I get the impression that this has changed (mine are 7 years old). The traction is quite good on most terrain. They are waterproof. They are starting to develop holes where the boot flexes with my step, though, and I haven't used them all that heavily. Worth considering. Customer Service Forever satisfaction guarantee.
