The boot has held up extremely well in all weather conditions - wet/dry and warm/cold (70 plus in California to -15 in Alaska's Ice and Snow). The cold could be felt through the sole and I am sure that a felt or other type of insulative liner would help. Merrel makes other boots designed for extreme cold, this isn't one of them.

Upper support is excellent, but the toe box a bit narrow. The tongue takes a bit of getting used to, but is very comfortable and takes presure points off the top of your foot. I recommend replacing the manf's footbeds with SuperFeet, which enhanced support and comfort and provided a more solid feel. It didn't add to the cramped toe box. One may wish to replace the round nylon laces with something that will stay tied without resorting to complex knots.

The sole is excellent on improved trails, but is very slick on rock, especially wet rock (crossing streams especially). It has proven very slick on wet concrete or floors, as well. I discovered that quickly after returning from a day hike around Portage Glacier.
