Great boot! It took me awhile to really adjust to Montrail's ""integrafit"" design and the overwhelming arch support, etc.. However this boot fits your foot like a glove and after the break in period, is about the most perfect boot you could wear. I absolutely love mine.

I really hated these boots at 1st!! I have never had a pair of boots take so long to break in. Now, 1 year later you'd have to fight me to get them away! These boots offer great support and do quite well on rock. Outstanding traction and nice rubberized toe. I am so glad I stuck with them because it was worth it!

This is probably one of the best hiking shoe I have ever owned and what else would you expect The breakin time for these boots tend not to be as long as some of the ones I have had in the past. I strongly recommend these boots from dayhikers to backpackers

Purchased last March from REI mail order (using a 20% off coupon, bringing price paid down to $180.00 [US$]). I use custom foot beds and 'waterproofed' with Nikwax in a tube. I took a month to slowly break in the boots, sized to wear with thin liner and medium duty wool/acrylic blend sock. Break in time was relatively easy, as the out-of-the-box fit was quite good. Especially appreciate 'heel-lock' fit and roomy toe box. Arch and instep volume is moderate, and lacing options accomodate my occasional use of a heavy duty sock. Ankle support is great, traction great on uphill and descent. I'm a heavy heel striker, I carry a moderate to heavy pack (50-65lbs) on trail and off trail. I took the AT on a break in trip to RMNP in late May and they performed great. I had a nice foot feel for the trail even though the boot is somewhat heavy and protective. Minor pinch on right foot flex point took a number of day hikes and a five day backcountry excursion to finally break-in. I used these boots on a return to the Rockies in late June and July, and endured a 10 miles forced march through torrential rain...rain that turns trails into streams, making the hike into one long stream crossing. They held up well, but eventually gave way to the wet after four hours of near constant immersion. Dried slowly, they recovered nicely. The AT's are a truly wonderful set of foot chariots...hum-vees for the rough and tumble packer who wants solid support, good balance, and a roomy toe box. Well made, fairly priced, bomb-proof.

I have day hiked and done a few extended off-trail trips in a pair of full leather Asolo 555's. Great boot, but I like more toe box room and found that their ankle support waned after the leather softened thru normal use. I now wear these around town in winter.

Demolition to my feet! What more needs to be said? Thought they were a awesome looking boot from the appearence standpoint. Loved them as long as they weren't on my feet. From the moment I put them on it was downhill from there. World class blisters. Not wimpy ones either. Major craters on my heels. I put over 70 miles on those boots and they refused to have mercy. The best thing about them was that I bought them at REI and got my money back. They weren't happy but it is their policy thank God!

Boot gives excellent support and is extremely durable. Boot heel is poorly designed and gives blisters on extremely long hikes even when broken in.

These boots are wonderfun investments. I Balked at the price at first, but they are like wearing tanks for your feet. They kept my ankles steady during my COBS alpine mountaineering course in the Colorado Rockies. They were 100% water proof, and well insulated.

Bad aspects: They took just about forever to dry when I got water inside them, and they are a bit heavy. The toe of the shoe cut circulation to my toes, but that could be due to poor fit or the salesman standing on the toe (and maybe bending it) to demonstrate its stregnth.

Overall, I was completely impressed with the shoe, and I would buy them again if I had to, but I probabally never will, because they seem like they will last longer than I do.

I have been very happy with these boots. I have put around 250 miles on these boots includin a NOLS Fall Semester In The Rockies Course. I used the boots on about five day hikes before my first backpacking trip with them. On that trip I ended up with bruised ankles, but I haven't had any problems since. The boots worked well as an all prupose extended backpacking - mountaineering boots. I spent 25 days in the Wind River Range of Wyoming with them and traveled across glacier and climbed 4 peaks. With good waxing, my feet never got wet from the snow and ice.

I just didn't have a great experience with these boots, Some Good things about it:

Very tough construction, great tread, lots of toe room. Completely waterproof.

My bad experience however:
These boots took forever to break in for me. On top of that, I really didn't like the design they've adopted where you have so many points of contact inside the boot. I felt like the boot was digging up under the side of my foot, and needed a much bigger arch. Blister points seem to be more in this boot than in other's I've used. Bought a pair of Vasque Legend's and it was a difference compared to night and day. The bad thing is, that these boots feel so great in the store, it's really hard to get the "feel" of the boot until you're out on the trail, and have voided the return policy.

I had these boots for a total of two weeks before the began to fall apart. I had put roughly a 150-200 miles on them as backcountry Laborer in Glacier National park. After a week I notided the tread had severl large cuts and that many of the knobs on one boot had busted off. The other boot though looked brand new. After a week and a half one of the lace hooks came off and on the opposite boot two rivots had begun to work their way out of the leather. If it was not for this quality issue I would have loved these boots. incredible support and roomy. I even comfortable for those light walks unfortunately the boots fell apart much to fast for even something under a hundred dollars let alone 200
