Broke my foot snowboarding a few years back (I know, I know... don't ask) and have had serious trouble finding backpacking boots that will fit comfortably. I tried literally every boot known to man in the $150 to $200 range and was batting zero – and yes I use Superfeet. Everything fit wrong in one way or another - too much volume, not enough volume, not enough support, tore into my heels, etc... I was growing frustrated and was about to settle for the "lesser of evils" when a friend suggested Scarpa.

I tried in vain to find a Scarpa dealer here in Southern California (found there are none) and finally in desperation called Black Diamond, who recently took over their distribution. Spoke with one of their reps and he said they would be happy to ship me out a pair or two - with no obligation if they didn't work out. I'd had nothing to lose at this point so I discussed my needs in a boot and he suggested the Delta M3. I said "great" and he shipped out two pair (41.5 and 42s). Got my M3s in 2 days and they were without a doubt the nicest boots I'd yet seen or touched - and I'd seen more than my share in my quest for a new pair. The 42s fit perfect, right from the start!! I couldn't believe it, but then again - these are Italian boots and they do make the best. Anyway... I've used them for several backpacking trips and countless day hikes and they just keep getting better. Lots of support, great grip on the trail and across slimy river rocks and never a complaint from my feet. Put a bit of Nik wax on them to waterproof and they should be good to go for years! If you're looking for new boots, do yourself a favor and check out a pair of Scarpas - even if you have to call Black Diamond. You'll be glad you did.
