None I have had great success with Sundowners, but needed something burlier, so decided to give the Vasque Trekkers a try. I found one online in a wide width for a good price, so took the plunge. Initial fit is great, but while walking the top of the leather over base of toes painfully presses on top. I have talked to some who say it will always press on top, while other say the leather will soften and break in and conform to your gait, so I decided to give it a shot. Everything else with this boot is awesome. High cut for great support, I anticipate it will handle 50+ lb loads. Traction is great and suede leather handles abrasions pretty well. ...It has been 1 month of daily wearing the shoe, and although the bruises have disappeared, the uncomfortable feeling is still there. I will continue to try to break it in (it is a thick 3mm leather), but would caution all buyers that any major discomfort found in intial walkaround might be there to stay. Who know, some people claim 6 months of break in or a pair of shoes, and if you own them for decades, that would be a worthwhile tradeoff. In my circumstance, this shoe feels like it could be around longer than my kids. Let see if this breakin period is worth it. Similar Products Used: Vasque Sundowner, Raichle, Asolo Meridian |

These are great boots. They are very supportive and have a nice heavy duty feel. Haven't had any waterproofing problems yet; I have Nikwaxed them like a good backpacker should. They feel cushioned enough without losing that responsive trail feel. The only problem I've had is some slight heel slippage which seems to be going away as I continue breaking them in. That takes some time. Similar Products Used: Vasque Sundowners (too low and lightweight) |

This is my first pair of high end boots, and they have changed my whole attitude about hiking. I am a professional photographer and carry a heavy load from 2-10 miles and they have done excellent. They are a little hard to break in and they still pinch a bit the first 100 yds or so, but I woundn't trade them for anything. Customer Service I hear their customer service is second to none, but I have not needed. I got these on close out for a song, otherwise they are about average price (I paid $37.50!!!!!) Growing up in Texas, we wear boots. These are the most comfortable boots I have ever place on my "dogs", They fit well, have excellent support at the instep and ankles. Break in was easy but still got a few blisters. On the trail going up or down hill, over rocks, scree, you name it, traction was excellent. No sweaty feet and waterproof. I like these so much that I often wear them when I am going anywhere, shopping, movies, mowing, church. They are fantastic. Thanks Vasque. Similar Products Used: None |

I have worn and tried on and returned probably 10 pairs of boots in the last 10 years. The Vasque Trekker combines the best attributes of all these combined. The rough out leather soaks up the scratches and scrapes and still comes out looking great. The slighlty higher ankle cut takes some getting used to, but now I can't wear anything else. The stiff shank provides plenty of sole support. I have taken to wearing these every day. To get a boot this supportive that combines great traction, a cushioned feel, and still maintain the feel of the ground underfoot is a treat. If it fits your foot, BUY THIS BOOT! I got these on closeout at Campmor, a mail-order store for 80 bucks or so. They're best described as high midweight backpacking boots. Construction is of rough-out full grain leather which has proven to be very waterproof so far (esp. with a little Nikwax). The Skywalk outsoles provide great traction, but in the same respect do tear up the trails unnecessarily most of the time. Break-in time is substantial, but they've been very supportive.
