Can't say enough for this bag. We bought the 800 fill penguin with the deluxe ground sheet. My girlfriend and I fall under the heading of near ultra-light backpackers. However, we still tend to end up in pretty harsh environments including Yukon, Alaska and Coastal British Columbia.

For a little more than the weight of one bag, we both get an extremely plush and luxurious bed more than capable of keeping us both warm. The Ground Sheet holds our thermo rests tightly together not allowing any heat loss to the ground, the 800+ fill almost fills our tiny tent, and we sleep as soundly as we do under our duvet at home.

I love this bag, with the ground sheet it is an essential addition for any couple that fear the cold zippers of attached mummies or hate the tangling leg dance caused by separate foot compartments.

I have a Penguin 0/-5 with 800 fill, Nextec, and deluxe hood. I love it. Without the hood attached, the bag is 0 degree, and with hood -5. Very roomy. Just got it, so I have not had a chance to really check out its cold weather rating. Mainly unzipped, it was comfortable in low 40 degree weather. $500+ is a little spendy, but I never plan on buying another bag in my life.

I have used a North Face 0 degree bag, but it felt small, and the Penguin feels warmer. Definitely has more loft than the North Face.

This is a follow up to the first review i wrote on the Penguin. I recently took a trip to Baker Lake located in Skagit County early April when the days have been quite warm 65-68 degrees farenheit, but as the sun dips beyond the horizon
the temperature quickly drops to a butt freezing 12-18 degrees!

This was my first backpacking trip with the penguin sleeping bag and it passed with flying colors! With a thermarest pad underneath the bag i actually felt like i was sleeping at home in my bed! As mentioned in my previous review, the loft on this down bag is incredible. It feels so luxurious wrapped inside, and the room afforded by the semi-rectangular cut is perfect for someone who tosses and turns frequently during the night.

I have never slept so soundly and comfortably in all the years of sleeping in various other bags ie: polarguard 3D, lamitite, primaloft. If lucky, i usually average 4-5hrs. sleep, and not a solid 4-5hrs. But with the F.F. Penguin, i managed to sleep close to 8hrs! I actually did not want to get up! But it was a beautiful morning and I had to empty my bladder big time!

You know, I was real hesitant in purchasing such an expensive bag. But that old adage really rings true: You get what you pay for. I'm so glad I spent the extra moula on the Penguin. Now I can't wait to test it again!

After narrowing down the field of sleeping bags that contain down, i decided between the Western Mountaineer antelope or the Feathered Friends Penguin. Luckily i live close enough to the Feathered Friends outlet in Seattle so i decided to see the bags in person and to talk to the staff.

All i can say about the staff is that they are all laid back but very knowledgable and friendly.
There was absolutely no sales tactics involved, which i appreciated. I managed to try a variety of bags before selecting the Penguin for it's semi rectangular cut and optional hood (which i purchased also.) The quality is first class in all their merchandise, i looked at the seams and zippers very closely and was impressed by the detail. After crawling inside the Penguin i couldn't believe how comfortable it was and how much room there was for me to adjust to a variety of sleeping positions. I picked the regular size bag with 750 standard fill rated at 20 degrees. I stand about 5'9 and it fit perfect!

The loft in the bag is incredible! Upon arriving home i measured it with a ruler and got a reading of 8 and a half inches! I then rolled it up and stuffed it in its sack and unfurled it again later that night (about 7 hrs.) to measure again.
After a quick fluffing and shaking, it read the same measurements! Also note that there are choices of shell materials. I chose the new company material called Nestex, which is similar to PTFE but is more breathable and not so noisy.

I have yet to try the bag in the outdoors, but i'll be sure to give my review as soon as i do.

Customer Service

Very friendly and knowledgable. Gave me instructions on the care of the bag along with a bottle of down soap-free!
