Light, roomy, and versatile, this bag may be all you need for moderate 3 season use. I have the dryloft version with the optional dryloft detachable hood. I wanted a larger bag than the superslim mummy I had been using for years and the Moraine fit the bill. I also purchased the zip on couplet to make it a double bag but unless you are skinny newlyweds forget it. I suppose that if you doubled up on warm enough nights to let shoulders and an arm and leg out of each side it would work. In cold weather with two people zipped in you just can't close off the neck area enough and everytime someone moves the bag ""pumps"" out warm air which is quickly replaced with cold air. This bag fully unzipped does however, make a great comforter. The 20-30 degree range seems in line with my experience. I spent a week out in the open in low teen weather with the hood tightly cinched up and still was cold. Fortunately this bag is big enough that you could wear a complete down snow suit inside with little problem. I ended up purchasing a Feathered Friends Snowbunting which has become the bag I use for 90% of my outdoor activities. The Moraine has since only been used as a quilt in the guest room. A bit of a waste, but if the roof leaks overnight guests needn't worry with the Dryloft shell. All in all the Moraine is a high quality bag that lets you toss, turn, and sleep in the fetal position without driving you insane like a slim bag can. If your trips begin mostly after the alpine flowers are in full bloom and end before the first snow falls it should serve you well.

My thoughts on this bag are pretty consistent with that of the other reviewers: roomy, accurate temperature rating, well-built, etc. Marmot has discontinued their higher-end semi-rectangular down bags and that's a shame. Grab a Moraine if you can find one on a close-out sale.

I've had my Moraine around four years or so. It has the first generation Dryloft shell -- kind of a soft-feeling as opposed to slick and shiny ripstop. The Dryloft breathes well enough for me and does a good job of keeping out external water sources. The Dryloft also makes the Moraine warmer than the non-Dryloft version, due to its superior wind resistance.

I bought the optional hood for the Moraine, but wound up returning it to Marmot. I didn't care for the way it snugged up completely over my eyes, although some people prefer the 'blowhole' effect. Marmot was very good to deal with and offered me a credit for the full price of the hood to apply to any other product of theirs.

I have been comfortable in this bag (but not toasty) in the low twenties, so the 20-30 degree rating seems right on the mark. This is a large bag and it is harder to warm up than a confining mummy would be. The payoff, of course, is in all the extra space to toss, turn and move in.

I didn't get the coupler for this bag, as the coupler I already had for a 1980's Marmot bag fit the Moraine.

The Moraine does not have a side block baffle, so it is possible to fine-tune the comfort level by shifting down from the top to bottom and vice-versa. This feature makes the Moraine extremely versatile and well-suited for three season camping.

All in all, a great three season bag: warm, well-made, and extremely comfortable.

Great bag. We have two with reversed zippers. Very roomy and easy to control tempurature. I am quite large(6'4", 220lb) and enjoy using this bag over others. Very light and packable.

Customer Service

Dod chewed up a zipper on one and sent it in for repair. They repaired it fast and did not even charge me, what a deal!

I bought this bag with the available couplet so that my girlfriend and I could do the EurailPass thing around Europe one spring. It has been a great bag. Light, soft and comfortable, roomy, water-resistant, flexible, etc. It wasn't cheap (I paid $270) but the combo of features made it worth it for me. It is only a three season, so you have to watch the temp, and I get cold easily so you won't catch me outside in anything below 35 degrees. But in the 7 years, or so, since we've had it it hasn't degraded a bit. Still works for me just fine. Marmot rocks.
