I have been running regular unleaded gasoline In my 424 dual fuel stove for almost 3 years now, with a twist, so to speak. I am an rv/camper and use this stove daily. I add Stabile Ethanol Fuel Treatment (one ounce per gallon) to the gas more so to keep the generator clean although it does keep the gas fresh longer as well. About every 10 tanks or so of gasoline used, I then switch to coleman (white gas) fuel for a tank or 2 which blows out any build up quite nicely. This stove has 3 years of extensive daily use and I have not needed to clean or replace anything. Works great! Hope this info helps. Side note: I normally swear by Sea Foam fuel additive for autos and for preserving fuel, but for some reason it does not work as well in stoves and lanterns. Just my experience. Customer Service N/A. Have not needed any. Similar Products Used: Coleman dual fuel lanterns (2). |

Still have my fathers 425B in the box from the 1950's. In the process of restoring this to factory new. Purchased the new 424 since it was half price online at Walmart. great for the home in storms etc. I think unleaded gas would be the last thing I want to cook off. Only use Coleman fuel in the tank or pick up a propane generator adapter for $16.00 at Bass Pro. Comparing the classic 425B to 424, still basic design, not as solid as the 1950's but what is they built stuff to last in those days. All American. New tank fill cap is in a poor location compared to the old red tanks. Its a very proven design which hasn't really changed much since WWII. Plenty of Youtube videos to help with cleaning and overhauling your stove to make it last more than one lifetime.

I have had my coleman stove for over 25 years, and it still works great. I have always used unleaded gas, and always add oil where it says to add oil to keep the rubber from drying out. Its what I use during the summer to keep from adding heat to our house, call it a small B-B-Q in the drive way, make sure to release the pressure after it cools off before putting it away, that way it won't put pressure on the seals. That may be why it has lasted so long, I have even taken it ICE FISHING, nothing like pork chops steaming and warm food while fishing on a ice slab, zero to 30 above |

I've had my stove for six years but it started burning a yellow flame - I got a replacement generator but have found out all the seals are worn - be warned not to use un-leaded petrol |

I have owned my stove for over 17 years. I also own my father-in law's old 2 burner stove that was built in the early 60's. They both work beautifully! I don't know of any camping product I own that I can expect to last 40+ years. Yes it rattles, who cares? I'm not trying to hide from the Taliban here. Yes the cooking area is smaller than my stove at home. That's why i'm taking IT camping and not my range. I don't know about sharp edges, I've had my bare hands all over these stoves and they have never cut me. If they did, I wouldn't touch that spot again.

Nostalgia is what i thought when i found this stove. brought me back to being a kid. now im 23 and started my own camp collection. first to buy was the old school coleman stove. for the beginner, they can be daunting and hard to use. the jumping flames can scare away the newbie. but as long as the parts ar cleaned, the pressure is good, and you know what you are doing, this stove can be your best friend. all you people who complain about it being to small, remember, this is a camp stove, not a kitchen stove.
Customer Service replaced o ring seal on fuel cap. walmart plumbing section. Similar Products Used: other coleman stoves, and lanterns |

These stoves claim to run on unleaded gas - don't be fooled, they would run on unleaded fuel IF it weren't for the fact that most unleaded fuel now has ethanol added to it, along with other additives. A customer sewrvice lady AT COLEMAN said that today's unleaded fuels dissolve the seals in the stoves and lanterns. Save your money - they're no better than the ones that will only run on Colemean Fuel (which I priced today at Fred Meyer's for the ridiculous price of $12.99 a gallon!) It's still cheaper and greener than using all those propane bottles. A gallon will last you a LONG time. |
