Good points: - mud floor screened porch for cooking and camp gear. - numerous, large screened windows. - easy setup. - partition wall is bug proof. - sealable sun screen. - large size, but not too large. - zippers for all the doors and wind flaps. - light considering the size, but then it is way too heavy to be a back packing tent anyway so I guess the lightness is not so great. Bad points: - No optional canvas floor (zipper attached) for the mud porch. - No door from sleeping area to outside (direct exit). - High ceilings. - Canopy does not cover enough of the tent for heavy rain/wind protection. - tent poles seem a bit weak and if there was one more pair along the middle it would be great. It would give the tent a better tight figure and more support and strength. - lacks a wall in between the outer cavsas and the tent above the partition wall. This would help prevent the smoke from entering the sleeping area from the porch. I have not tested the tent in heavy rain. I assume it will not leak in light rain, or even heavy rain as long as there isnt a lot of wind. I got this in for possible long term use (2 to 4 months continuous use maybe). I think it is good enough as long as it does not snow heavily. Customer Service Never used Eureka customer supprt. I have had some problems with a past Eureka ten and it leaking a lot of water during a long heavy rain, but I think Eureka has now gotten a little better since then. Very happy with this tent. Very easy set up, Can be set up by one but better if two. Screen porch very handy as mud room and place to store gear. Especially with kids. No complaints at all. Customer Service I broke a pole through my own unbelievable stupidity. My fault. Called Eureka and told them the truth. They sent out a new pole right away at no cost. |

Purchased via internet as not available here. Reason - a full sized tent at 29lbs (14kgs)and small packed size was a dream. Integrated screen room was a better idea than the annexes sold here - I cook in mine and consequently don't want a fixed floor. Reality was great: tent pitches (OK, sets up) in 5 mins .. amazing! Let me say that again - amazing! Very bright, airy and pleasant inside. Weather proof and pretty solid in wind - no movement at all in light gusts. Windows zip down from the top, so even in rain I get cross-ventilation (and the view). Soooo light and easy to carry - half the weight of comparable double-skinned domes! Couple of design issues: tent vents well, but as expected of a single, non-breathable wall tent, theres a lot of morning condensation (this is a direct trade off against weight of double skins or canvas, and one I can live with). Screen room is (just) too small to use safely as a kitchen (which I could do with my old tent)- another 30cm (1ft) would fix this. Central T zip opening means the walls sag, costs useable room and lets in too many bugs - an offset D zip would make the room more useable, keep out more bugs, and a central support for the front wall would eliminate the sag. Overall, these are very minor issues. The tent is soooo easy, light and quick it will get used much more than I'd expected: it will replace my tunnel tent as a quick car tent. I'll add a separate screen room for longer stays and get smaller tables for quick trips - problems solved! Double the USD list price landed in Sydney, after shipping, insurance, duties and taxes - but still a better tent cheaper than I could buy here. Customer Service Pretty good overall: Eureka don't include wind guy lines - which are hard to buy aftermarket, these days: please add them to the kit, Eureka. Also stake (peg) loops don't fit stakes provided: simple stake loops (even rubber rings) would fix this. Other wise, a good kit, simple instructions, well done. Internet purcase thru Global Mart was great! Other mail order stores wouldn't ship a package this large internationally - so top mark to Globla Mart for persevering with what must often be a tricky business. I was especially impressed with the qualities and features of this tent. It sets up easily and is very well designed. It held up well in strong winds and is designed professionally. It's one I definately plan on using for car camping, but it's probably too big for canoeing. Customer Service Mine was missing its manual. I wrote to Eureka and they shipped one immediately. None Though I primarily backpack on my free weekends, I needed a tent to keep my family dry and comfy when car camping or when my friends and I take a canoe trip. At first I thought the screen room would be too small, but it really is a great addition. The tent kept me and three other guys warm, dry, and bug-free during a canoe trek along the Shenandoah in May. We could''ve fit a fifth if necessary. Venting is great for such a large tent and setup is easy - one person can do it in a pinch, though it''s easier with two. It''s a pricey tent, but the quality is outstanding. I''d buy it again in a heartbeat. Customer Service Bought from REI. They''re tops. Similar Products Used: REI family dome Old Coleman canvas jobs |
