While I used to hike alot with a larger and heavier tent, I wanted to trim down with the streamside. For the money, it was the top choice with space to spare and sturdy construction when I bought it a year ago. I don't think I'll be replacing this tent for a long time. It is adequately spacious, easy to erect, and highly versitile thanks to copious amounts of netting and a burly rain fly. My only complaint is the heft of the 2 fiberglass poles, which have to be quite thick due to the geometry. I had reservations about aluminum, though, and prefer to take the weight penalty. Like any home or shoe, buy what fits!

For value this tent is hard to beat. I purchased mine off of the internet from OutdoorOutlet.com for around $150 with a footprint. It's not the lightest or easiest to set up (particularly the rain fly, it has a several tie downs), but it does an exceptional job of sleeping two people very comfortably and stores some gear under the vestibule. It's very sturdy and holds up very well in the wind and rain. I'm a mountain biker, so this wasn't purchased to pack in. It's a good thing because this would be somewhat unweildy due to it's length and weight.

The Streamside is great. Though it is only a three season tent, i've been comfortable in it in snow and temperatures as low as five degrees. The one i have has fiberglass poles, the joints of which can sometimes catch on the "unbreakable" clips, causing a minor hassle. The tent is easy to set up, and, more importantly, easy to pack up.
I've not yet used it on a really warm night, but, the noseeum mesh that basically is the ceiling should allow some really nice stargazing.
Plus i got it for almost half price on rei-outlet.com.

This tent is extremly comfortabul for 2 people. I have only had it for a year but i love it.I have never had any problums with leaking. my only complant is i wish it had a hanging gear loft, and some times it can be a problume getting in and out.

I have had the Kelty Streamside 2 for almost four years and camped in two feet of snow and blistering summer nights. Though it has never leaked once, I must complain about the height of the rainfly. You see, it is too high to keep heat in not to mention it lets a passing breeze right through the tent taking your body heat with it. Due to this, I don't recomend this tent for late fall and winter use.(Unless you pile snow on the sides of the tent) An all around excellent choice for the money and an unsurpassed summer tent.
I own the older aluminum pole version, but I hear there is now a fiberglass version.

Just got this tent this summer and have used it two times this summer and once this fall. Never had any problems and it did well in moderate rain. It has a lot of ventalation without the fly for hot summer nights. Their are two problems with the tent though first the full cover fly has no ventalation flaps, and the way that the vestibule opens makes so that you have to unstake at least one corner to get out or in the tent. The real test will be when I uses the tent this winter.

This tent will keep you dry in almost any rainstorm. I have had it for about 2.5 years and love it. It sets up very quickly with only one person. It can get a little tight to sleep two and have gear inside. I have taken it on many trips and also into the snow and it did pretty well. It is light enough to pack in by yourself with no problems. I love knowing that this tent can get through any summer rainstorm without getting me wet at all. Pretty good value for the occasional backpacker.

Nice tent. I got it over the winter and have used it on three trips this spring. It rained at least one night on each of my trips and my gear stayed dry. I wonder if the people complaining about the size of the rain fly had their guidelines setup properly.

Kudo's also go out to www.planetoutdoors.com as I got a great price on the tent. I saved close to $50 over my local EMS shop and I got free shipping to boot.

Customer Service

I have not had to deal with Kelty customer support yet. Hopefully it will stay that way.

This is a great tent for overnight hikes or short trips, a little heavy for extended trips. The rain fly is a little troublesome and dosen't protect the side walls from splatter. Your sleeping bag gets wet in heavy rain, if it were only two inches lower it would be great.
