I got the tent as a gift, but I was already familiar with it because Backpacker Magazine had written an article that had positively reviewed it.

I only sleep in a tent when the weather or insects force me inside. In that case, generally the tent has to only accommodate me (5'10") and my dog. I have used the tent for about a year on several trips and here are the results.

I like this tent. I like it because it is light, easy to pitch (although it is not free-standing), and is well made. While the vestibule is large enough to take care of my boots and stove, it isn't large enough to hold a pack. Do I wish the vestibule were larger? No. It is big enough for what I need and I don't want the tent to be any heavier.

As for room, I don't have any trouble stetching out inside and there is plenty of space for the dog and me. On cold mornings, I like to be able to brew my coffee, and sit up in the tent, in my bag while things warm up a bit. This tent lets me do that. While two people could use this tent in it a pinch, I haven't done and am not anxious to try it.

I also like this tent because it has so much mesh in the top. On those warm nights when the bugs force me inside, it's almost like I'm still outside because the mesh ceiling just seems to disappear. When I do need the rainfly, it goes on quickly and has always kept me dry and because of all the mesh, there is no condensation.

Lastly, I like this tent because it is backed by LL Bean. It's guaranteed for life and their customer service is wonderful.

If you're looking for a light, inexpensive, three-season backpacking tent this is it.

It speaks of high quality, is light enough to backpack with but does not feel cramped. I'm about 6 feet tall, and was actually surprised that the length seemed so sufficient. It's not a car camping pack, where you may want to store gobs of junk inside the tent while you sleep, it does what it is intended for (backpacking) well. While the vestibule outside your front door is not exactly cavernous, it is well suited for housing your boots, and some gear you might want near. If you're camping in bear country, like I do, most of my pack went in the tree anyway. I have a light green colored model which is quite pleasant. It's very easy to set up, take down and stuff back in the sack. Yes, two people could sleep side to side in this tent, but I suggest you are comfortable with rubbing shoulders first. In the tall end, there is enough head room to sit up.

I bought the new (2000)MicroLight Solo and immediately sent it back.

I own a lot of LL Bean gear and have always been happy with the quality and representation of their products. Not in this case, however.

The catalog lists the tent at 117 inches long -- not even close. I'm 6'2" with size 13 feet. On my back I couldn't get my feet in the tight area at the end of the tent while my head was hanging out the front door.

The quality is LL Bean, but only buy this tent if you're under 5'8" is my recommendation. And, don't expect a 10 foot long tent that you can put you and your gear into.

Customer Service

I love LL Bean's customber service and have never had a problem returning merchandise.

Well if you have a hundred bucks and need a tent that is light, easy to set up, holds up to 50 mph winds this is the tent for you. Needed a tent to replace my 4 season Sierra Designs tent. This tent is a great light 3 season tent. No problems (30+ trips in the Sierra's)

Very good tent for the money. Excellent materials, workmanship, and value. Very easy & quick set-up, light weight (around 4 1/2 pounds), and separates into 2 packages for easy carry. The only complaint (minor) is that I wish the vestibule was larger, about the size of the LLB Lightstuff 2.

Customer Service

LLB has always had THE BEST customer service of anyone. I wish some the ""Big Boys"" like TNF, Patagonia, Sierra Designs, etc. would take a lesson from LLB. Knowledgeble personnel, very friendly and helpful, and they will bend over backwards to make sure you're satisfied. If they don't know the answer to a question (which is rare), they will find out and call you back. Great company, very good prices, super service. Enough said!

I mainly chose this tent for the price. It is a good tent for a relatively low price. It is fairly light weight and you can't go wrong with a LL Bean purchase. It is comfortable for one person, and if the second is a significant other then you can sleep two.

Customer Service

LL Bean I have found has some of the best customer service. I try to buy as much there as possible as I have always had good experiences there.

Before this tent I have just had a cheap 2-3 man made by Trekk it wasn't bad but this one is much better, and lighter.

This is a great Friekin' tent. Its roomy, sets up in a snap, and boy is it water tight. I sat through 4 waves of serious july thunder storms in this tent. The next morning i was as dry as can be. This tent is a steal at that price.
