Good tent. Really great for a solo traveler. Not too heavy, and it vents fairly well. The mesh roof is great for star watching. There were a few problems, however. The fly is seam sealed, but I noticed leaks coming from where the velcro tabs are attached to the fly. A bit of seam sealer fixed that. I also noticed that the fly doesn't go all the way to the ground, so you do get splash up on to the sides of the tent. Not really a big deal. Customer Service No problems with the tent, so no reason to check with customer service - which is the best customer service of all. Similar Products Used: Mtn. Hardwear Trango 2 |

The Nutshell is a nicely designed tent for a man or a pair. It is though sensitive to strong wind (shatters) and rain (canopy and fly are too close). The vestibule is too small for storing gear. It has mainly been used for kayaking. Similar Products Used: Tents of different, mostly european, manufacturers. |

This is a great lightweight tent. I have used it in rain, snow, heavy winds, fair weather, and hot weather. The tent weighs about 5 lbs packed. The construction is very solid and if properly guyed out, it barely shudders in even very strong winds. I am impressed with this tents ability to shed snow and wind. If the tent isn't guyed out, it is fairly flimsy. It ventilates extremely well. The tent comes in a special 'burrito' stuff sack (which I don't use) and comes with a lot of repair material. The only thing I don't like about this tent is the small vestibule, which opens directly above the door. However, in a tent that is this light, a small vestibule is to be expected. Similar Products Used: When shopping for this tent, I looked at the Mtn. Hardwear Thru-Hiker, the Sierra Designs Orion, and the North Face Slickrock. I chose the Nutshell because it was light, had more headroom than the Thru-Hiker, more ventilation and brighter colors than the Orion, and a full coverage rainfly (unlike the Slickrock). |
