I've had my tent for about 6 years now and I still can't beleive how great this thing is. It's lasted winter camping, summer car trips, backpacking trips, dog claws inside (not really recommended) and still is in perfect shape. I do mind the weight a tad bit, but after awhile you just get used to it. I've never had any trouble leaking, or anything. There is some condensation in the morning, but I just learned to vent a bit more. Customer Service None so far, but I hear they're fantastic to deal with. Similar Products Used: North Face westwind.....not free standing, big mistake purchase, bought because of name. |

The Bad: Moss claims that the floor seams won't leak except in really extreme weather. They are partly right, but I recommend sealing them, and there are a lot of them (not a bucket floor). The fly sets quite close to the canopy, and it can be hard to keep them apart even in no wind. The bug net is inside, so you need to open it to adjust ventilation. While there are two doors, there's only one vestibule, and the doors are at enough of an angle that you can only use one if it's raining. The Good: VERY strong and lots of lash points. Big hooped vestibule, though it needs to be staked out well. The coating is _really_ waterproof. The tent poles are 40cm segments, which means that you can put them in your bag sideways and not mess up the weight distribution. The tent is light for a mountaineering 2-person, yet very well-made. This is also one of the best looking tents I've seen (graceful, unobtrusive and gentle---looks like part of nature, almost). Other: Moss put the mesh on the inside to protect it from snow. This tent is certainly more at home in snow than in rain, but still not bad in rain. This tent may still be cheap ($460 CDN ~= $300 US) from MEC. Customer Service Fairly prompt and reasonable reply to emailed question. No other experience. Similar Products Used: Various from Eureka, TNF, Sierra Designs. Has anyone tried the MEC Snowfield? That should compare favourably with this. |
