This has been a very solid, though not perfect tent.

Strengths:
1. Excellent weight/space ratio. However, when packed in supplied carrying sack, it takes up quite a bit of room in my pack. However, when packed in a vertical and horizontal compression sack, I can make it much more compact.
2. Steep walls make for plenty of headroom from side to side and front to back.
3. Simple two and half pole support system and clip system facilitates quick set-up. (About five minutes).
4. Waterproof in severe conditions. To test its waterproofness, I pitched it on my side yard which has continous spray lawn sprinklers. I turned them on for a half hour and then checked the tent. Not a drop inside.
5. Tough rainfly. This was tested in actual field use. We got hit one night with a severe hailstorm that lasted a good 30 to 35 minutes. The stones were about pea size. It was coming down with such force that I was concerned the fly might rip. We all survived with nary a drop.

Weaknesses.
1. It takes up quite a bit of room in a pack. This is minimized, However, when packed in a vertical and horizontal compression sack.
2. Single door. A back door would be very nice, especially when sleeping three. To fit, the third body (if all are adults) fits best by taking the middle position with head toward the back of the tent. It would be much easier for this person to exit and enter if there were a door on the back.
3. Small vestibule. There isn't really room for three backpacks, or really even two. It's fine for boots and smaller items, but that's about it.
4. Perhaps I just haven't figured out how to adjust it correctly, but when the fly gets wet, it sags and makes contact with the interior walls of the tent. This drastically reduces the ventilation capablitilities of the tent and condensation forms and drips back into the tent.
5. No real door flap. I realize that one of the compromises to keep the weight down was to leave a door flap off. This isn't a major problem until the wind blows and the dust flies.

Overall: This is the best tent I've owned. I have a great deal of confidence that it will do its job even in difficult situations. And confidence is ultimately the standard by which I judge a product. And considering the price I paid, I feel it represents terrific value.

This tent is the bomb! I took it on the west coast trail this summer (July '00), and although it didn't rain a drop, there was very heavy moisture due to the proximity to the ocean. The tent was drier than a popcorn fart inside! Sets up well, that is, after you get the clip system down. Extremely light. It's rated as a three person, but it weighs the same if not less than two person shelters, which is what I use it for. There's no way you could fit more than two bodies comfortably. I would take this tent anywhere. (note: Ed Viesteurs took this tent to Everest....Sweet!)

its an easy tent to set-up with space for two people and their gear, not three people. i had to return mine because it leaked, the store said they have never had that problem with a mountain hardwear before, so i figure it just a fluke. my real problem is that i sent it six weeks ago and am currently waiting for the company to respond, the store said they have not heard from them yet. Outdoor sports is a good shop and will probably compensate me either way.

I have had nothing but good experience with my Light Wedge 3. The tent is light and compact, and can be set up in less than five minutes. It is nicely ventilated, so that on those airy, starlit nights, one feels like he is sleeping outside. It also sheds water admirably: my wife and I spent a long night beneath a steady, soaking rain in the Adirondacks last summer, and the rainfly didn't let in a drop.

The only downside is the floor space. If one is camping with two attractive members of the opposite sex, then the Light Wedge 3 might be suitable as a 3 person tent. If one is hiking with two sweaty, unshaven members of the same sex, then the tent is far too cozy. The Light Wedge 3 is really a 2 person tent with some extra room for gear. Even if one cound squeeze three people inside, there would be no room at all for gear, as the vestibule, while it is a great place to stash muddy booys, is far too small to shelter any more than two smallish backpacks.

Overall, the Light Wedge 3 is a great tent. It is not a good choice, however, if you are regularly backpack with more than one other person.

I haven't needed any help or advice regarding my tent, but I did email Mountain Hardwear with some questions about their insulated parkas, and received no response whatsoever, even after I re-sent the message. I am therefore a bit hesitant to buy another Mountain Hardwear product.

Nicely designed and built, sets up quick and easy, and not too heavy considering the size (~44 sqft). Plenty of guy points on the fly to give adjustment if needed. I camp with my preteen kid and want something reliable -- no wet nights please. The tent has plenty of space for us and gear. Went through more rain than I care to see again w/o something solid over my head, no leaks and the large vestible was really appreciated. I wish it packed up smaller (funny how bigger tents are bigger even when packed...) Very impressed with the construction... MtnHW does a beautiful job. Seams are super neat, everything really fits, and besides its just plain pretty.

This is a sweet tent! I have owned it for about two years now, and I love it. It is lightweight, yet provides enough room for 2 people and lots of gear, or three people and little gear. The floorplan is great, with every inch of space very usable. Easy to set up and take down. Very durable and well made.

I've used this tent for some time now. My teenage kids have used and perhaps abused it on numerous field trips. It has been a solid piece of gear. We have seen Zero functional problems. Zippers are good quality, seams are holding up. One pole is slightly out of shape but it poses no functional problem. Great Tent.

Our family also uses a 6 person Ureka for non backpacking excursions. It suits the purpose well, however the quality with Mountain Hardware is evident.

Great tent, my wife and I have had this tent for about 2 years I only use it for valley camping and backpacking. It is very roomy for 2 people and all their gear, I love the tention shelf above the door. I have sat out at least 5 thunder storms in it and not had it leak.
