I purchased this tent as an emergency substitute for a tent that had the fly stolen on a previous trip (the replacement didn't fit). For a one-man tent, this thing has ample space. You can fit all your gear in (or in my case, two dogs). Staked and guyed properly, it is a pretty sturdy tent. However, I would not recommend it in extrememly windy places. High wind near or above timberline had my tent bowed over pretty good, but it stayed up. I think this is partially due to the high profile near the entrance... it is high enough to let you sit up or comfortably crouch while changing or packing during a rainstorm.

My biggest complaint was the excessive droop after a rainstorm or heavy dew. The fly resting on the screen caused a lot of condensation.

I used this tent on a trip to the flattops in Colorado June/99. Worked out great. Little small, but when you are trying to save weight it is great. Packs real nice. Setup not too bad. Needs some guying out. All in all nice tent.

Great tent at a great price. Neat feature...the vestibule is an integral part of the tent, not the fly.

Only downside is the somewhat bulky size when packed considering it's a one-man tent.

I purchased my Sololite a year ago and have used it on numerous backpacking and canoeing trips. I had been using a Nitelite, so the smaller size took some getting used to. I love the light weight and small pack size, and it has been very dependable in rainstorms. The only negative comments I have is that the rain fly does not totally cover the back of the tent, and it is not free-standing. Otherwise, an excellent value for those like me who like to sleep alone but are too claustrophobic to use a bivy sack.

I have used this tent for two years now with no problems. Lots of room for a one person tent and quite wind and waterproof. This tent is also reasonably priced and can accomodate two people (tightly) if needed.

Customer Service

REI makes good equipment for good prices.

I purchased my Sololite about four years ago and I have never regreted it once. since then I have spent almost every other weekend in it and even two 2 week backpacking trips in the middle of the winter in northern New Hampshire in waist deep snow. I believe that it is the best lightweight backpacking tent in it price range (which is a steal for such a quality item). In fact, after seeing my sololite in action two of my friends bought them. If you are looking for a high quality, 3/season backpacking tent that can take whatever is thrown at it, I strongly suggest the sololite. (check it out at REI.com)

I bought this tent right before a multi-day trip in Colorado for two reasons; it was on sale, and the 10-pound weight of the tent I had brought along to use was making me nervous because my knees have been giving me problems lately. I was not disappointed. Setup was very easy. I had just enough room in the vestibule for my backpack. My only complaint was that I could have used about 2 more inches of head room for taking a sip of water during the night.
