I bought this tent used on E-bay and couldn't be happier. The large vestibule is like an additional room; big enough for all your gear as well as a cooking area for inclimate weather.I have used this tent in all conditions including a three inch snow fall and 25 mph winds. It met all challenges without a leak or fear of collapse. The only qualm I can find is that the set up is a bit confusing due to lack of color coded poles but that is easily remedied with a bit of colored tape. The only other important note is that the fly must be stked out well to ensure good ventilation. Condensation is nominal and ample mesh provides good ventilation. The fourth pole for the vestibule adds a little extra weight but allows this tent to be used beyond 3 seasons.

Customer Service

I tore out one of the webbing straps during set-up and Sierra Designs fixed it free of charge as well as including extra seam sealer

I just got this tent as a birthday gift. the first time I set it up,it took about 15 minutes to get everything right. Once you figure out how everything goes, it sets up very quickly. The size is great, but the thing I love the most is the huge vestibule. Perfect for a couple of packs, raingear, and my dog (when I decide to bring her). Overall, this is a fantastic tent. the only downside is that you need to use most of the guylines to get the rainfly taut.

Great in the wind! I pitched it on the beach and had 40 mph winds that night and tent stayed like a rock. Recommend a tarp to put underneath. The huge vestibule was big enough for my 80lb. alaskan husky to sleep in at night and stand up and move around while still fitting my dirty boots and pack. Very light I believe if this tent can withstand Kodiak's harsh weather it can stand it anywhere. My only beef the first time I took it out and staked it down about 2 inches of stiching came undone...otherwise excellent buy with out having to go to a 4-season tent.

A great tent. Easy to set up and no problems if done correctly, and not many if not. I haven't had any problems and have weathered many violent Mid-Western thunderstorms. Would suggest investing in the ground cloth and some heavier gauge stakes for inclement weather.

This tent is a joy to camp in, with a lot of room to spare! The set up could be easier with color coated ends to match the tabs where the pole meet. The Rainfly seems a little loose, but gets the job done. I highly recommend buying the footprint, it is worth it. Plus Sierra Designs customer service rocks, they are one of the most helpful group in the industry. If you have a dog and love to feel secure in the outdoors buy this tent and layback and feel good about it.....

I recently purchased one of these tents and took it on a three week bike tour. Overall the tent was great. The inside was roomy enough for the two of us, but might be a little cramped for those not on romantic terms with each other. We had several days of rain, high winds, thunderstorms, and hail in Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. The tent remained quite dry when we were able to pitch it before a thunderstorm overtook us. The cross pole design seems to work quite well in providing stability fo the tent. The huge vestibule (20 s.f.) was invaluable, allowing us to store 6 panniers of gear protected from the elements. There was also room for me to cook and prepare food in the vestibule during rainstorms, or when the temps were extremely low. The tent was stable in windy conditions, but the rainfly had to be fully staked out for adequate rain protection (we used 10-11 stakes to fully secure the tent. My only complaint is that the rainfly rubbed one of the back corners and let a little bit of leakage in. I couldn't adjust it not to rub. Overall this tent is a great all around tent, though a little heavy for bike touring. I was very satisfied with it and will continue to use it for years to come.

Just bought this tent because it is one of the few tents with a huge vestibule, which is what I was looking for. I didn't really care for the pole/clip design but figured I could live with it.I prefer pole sleeves. The overall quality seemed a bit low but it was a reletively inexpensive tent. My first outing in the Chugach range with the tent proved less than confidence inspiring. With the tent floor staked down against the wind, which wasn't that hard, and the poles all clipped in, I began to attach the rainfly. All of the sudden a mild gust flattened the tent, bending two poles in the process. I manage to get it back up and secure all the guylines and it held the rest of the night as most any tent will do if it is guyed. However, I have NEVER,had a tent do this before. This includes 2pole and 6 pole designs in much stronger wind than I encountered during this fiasco. I returned this tent. It was hard to set up and badly designed. You get what you pay for, and I paid for it. Almost with my life. What a piece of junk.

When I first got my tent I was a little displeased about how flimsy it felt but after testing its strenth I began to feel more secure about my purchase. So after having it for a few months i am glad i bought it and for a three season tent you can't go wrong for the price and the weight.

I have recently had the delight of testing the Astro while i was Backpacking on Mt. Rainer. Well let me tell you a thing this is one of the best tent I have ever tested it was snowing and even though i was in a three-season tent i was was dry. Of course it is kinda of a pain to set up if i ever go back i wouldn't go without a Astro CD.

Customer Service

They were very helpful when i called to test the customer service.

The Astro CD has a good basic design and is simple to set up, but I had a few problems with wind stability on a ridge in southwest Virginia during a storm. It seems the tent is just a bit flimsy and the poles don't give that warm, fuzzy feeling during a rough night. Perhaps the alloy is too soft or the poles are too thin, although it kept me dry. The stitching and fabric quality seems fine. I would have liked pole sleeves. I think it could be a pinch better for the money.
