This tent has sheltered us from the snows of Denali, the Chougach Mts., the Tetons, Yellowstone, Long's Peak, Lake Superior, the UP, and Trempeleau Wildlife Refuge among other notable anti-tropical destinations. Not once have we wanted for anything more than this tent has provided. When sleeping on snow, a Thermarest is the key, but a tent with good vetilation and a bath-tub bottom will keep your critical gear dry (and therefor not frozen solid in the morning).

The vents on this tent work surprisingly well, even in the Smoky Mts. The size perfectly accomodates three winter campers and their respective piles of gear ( both me and my brother are 6'4" ). The dual vestibules are key for times when cooking outside is simply not possible, and for keeping falling snow off of the gear. All of these features have a couple drawbacks: weight and price. On day 5, after several blizzards, this tent weighs 15+ lbs. Even on Day 1, when the tent is still dry, it weighs quite a bit. It does cost quite a bit, but so does anything that has The North Face written in 4" lettering on the side. In the world of mountaineering gear, price and quality do go hand-in-hand.

Customer Service

While looking for backpack buckles, I have gotten 2 screwed up orders (it seemed like the threw 3 of everything they had in, while I only needed a couple of buckles which they apparently stopped making). Sewed up my 3-yr old mountain jacket, and re-vitalized the G.T. Replaced a broken tent-pole. Modest price.
