I bought my Rainier Tent when it first came out, but on my first camping trip using the tent it stormed. The rain fly leaked so bad that we had to abandon the site and sleep in a hotel.
Customer Service The Customer Service Department at North Face was extremely helpful, and were very quick to resolve the problem with the tent. They made the how exchange process very easy for me..Two Thumbs Up!!!! Similar Products Used: Living in Yosemite for the last 8 years had allowed me to test many differant brands and styles of tents. With that being; said the Rainier is still on the top of my list. that might be, because I've had it for so long, but still, all the more reason. |

terrible, I agree it looks bad, but more importantly mine leaked, just what you need!!...in a rainstorm with 60mph winds. I would never buy one again. They need to drop this product at once Customer Service Don't know Similar Products Used: N/A |

tent is great once set up. but i also agree with the others it is difficult to get the fly set up. me and a buddy each brought the tent and the poles bent with in the first couple of times of use. they are still usable but a little warped. pther than that the tent witheld a decent storms and is enough space for me and my wife, we are both about 5'10". the vestabule is enough to keep just what you need to keep close but to fit two packs will not leave enough space to get in and out of the tent very easily. I will have to agree with previous reviewers in that this tent is a bit difficult to set up and break down, though I have found that I am getting better with practice. I also agree that this should not be the case. I have used the Rainier on the AT, in Mississippi, on countless backpacking trips, etc. I also plan on taking it to Klamath Falls in Oregon for a 6 month trip. In my experiences with bad weather, I have found that my fly leaks a bit on one seam. Fixable. It does, however, hold up quite nicely to HIGH winds and heavy rain (except for the small leak). I have never had to guy it out, but there are ample guy points available. I too would purchase a free standing tent next time just becuase it would cut down on weight and time spent pitching and breaking down. I did not find it difficult at all to get the tent rolled up to stuff it back in the sack. I have had a little problem with condensation with the fly on though. It is a great tent for summer time becase of the outstanding ventilation due the the high amounts of mesh incorporated into the tent. Very nice! All in all, it's a decent tent. a bit frustrating at first to get set up, but once you have that down, it's enjoyable. I've had a lot of good comments on the style too, though we all know that is NOT why you buy gear! |

Specs are REALLY tight on poles, but tent took huge winds (HUGE winds). Space fine, there's never enough. Very well designed for guying lines, stakingout, creating tension. Impressed with heat containment. Expect summer to be a dream. Customer Service called Sierra for info. Got great service, knowledgeable person. Weakness:
None First of all, the first reviewer at the bottom is out of line... Reviewing a product based on its looks? As for the review, I bought this product because it was relatively cheap - got it on sale. I looked at the specs, and it seemed okay. I got the tent. It was small and light for a 2 person tent. Instruction manuals were okay. I took this out for a camping trip. First thing I noticed is that setting it up requires practice. After that, you could set this tent up in 5 minutes. Tearing it down and packing it up however is another story... I personally think it takes some strength to remove the poles from the tent itself due to the fact you have to bend the poles and pull the ring out simultaneously. Maybe I''m doing it wrong, but you''ll see if you ever get this tent. But the worse part is folding it up to the size that you can stuff it in its sack. I found that it took several tries just to get it to fit. Basically, putting up a tent takes 5 mins, but packing it up takes at least twice as long or even longer. When I tested it, it rained and the wind was pretty heavy. I did not have extra guy-out lines, but the tent held up great. The ventilation is superb, I had no condensation inside at all with 2 people sleeping inside. I do think that the size is tight. I had hoped that the vestibules would have enough space to store gear, but that was not the case. I think the specs took into account front and back as the total vestibule area - however it is obvious that you can only use the front for storage. Personally, I think it is impossible to store two people''s gear in the vestibule AND get in and out of the tent easily. Bottom line - yes, I got it at a bargain. It is a quality tent, but I think it has some flaws. I gave it a 3 star rating because of the frustration of setting it up and packing the tent up. I do think that practise will improve this, however it need not be that way. If I were to choose again, I would pick a tent that was freestanding, lightweight, and has plenty of vestibule area for gear storage. Customer Service Not needed yet. Similar Products Used: None |

None I recently used this tent in the Sierras, it was fine, plenty of ventilation, room, and it rained and hailed on us and it was fine. Because it is not free standing it is easier to set up with 2 people. Also, my husband is 6''3" and it is a little tight for him.For the price and weight for two people, I feel it is a really good value. Also, to the other reviewer, how can you review something you have not used? @ Similar Products Used: None |
