I think the design and quality are average for this tent. The fly fits loosely and sags on the tent causing condensation. I sewed on some loops to the bottom of the fly to pull the fly away from the tent which helps. Also leaked at the corners even after I seam sealed. Some leaks though the doors dripped onto the tent as well. Very roomy in side for two, a bit cramped for three. Rather heavy for two people for backbacking. I like the clip design used on the SD tents better than the sleeves used on this tent, had one rip slightly.

Customer Service

No experience with this tent but did have a bad experience getting work done on an older down jacket. Work took two months and they charged 1/3 the price of a new one.

As a mostly warm weather camper, the ability to regulate hot/cold air by zipping and unzipping the many window type coverings is a real blessing. Also it gives me the ability to go into the colder climates. I would not look at the tent as a true 4 season (maybe 3.5?).

Others have knocked the weight but you would never climb this huge home in by yourself. When you get there you'll LOVE the room in this thing. It's HUGE with wide open doors at each end. Your buddies will be coming to your tent when the rain starts to fly.

This isn't the cheapest tent on the market but you get what you pay for. In my case this one tent solves all my needs: camping in the back yard with my 3 year old; summer camping with wife and kid; packing with a buddy in the eastern Sierras. That's why I rated it as a good value...it's like having two or three tents.

Customer Service

I didn't have any problems with the tent but I did have a problem with a bag that I bought. As you might expect, you pay full boat at TNF but you get great customer service...no questions asked.

A sturdy, warm, heavy tent. Easy to pitch, but the rain-fly is a drag to set up. It takes longer to set up the fly than it does to pitch the tent. I wouldn't use it for backpacking, as the weight, (10 lbs), and packed size would be inconvenient. The new models have equal length poles; a definite improvemnet. If you're car camping and may face severe / inclement weather, this is a great tent. They call it a backpacking tent, though it's a bit large for that. The Polaris or Harrier may be a better bet if weight is an issue.

This tent rocks. I've used in hot weather to freezing cold here in New England. Ok its not a true 4 season, and I wouldn't take in on my treks to Nepal. But for the most part, a great tent for the money. Easy set up, great easton poles, zipper adjustments for 3/4 season use. Hey its north face, nothing is better.

I have taken this tent on many trips in and around Virginia. Including the Jefferson Nat'l Forest near Blacksburg, where it has proved reliable, easy to set up, and that it can stand up to the elements. Although it is a 3 person I have only slept two, with more than enough space, there is plenty of room for three people. Also, with the quality you can expect from The North Face I don't think there's a better tent for your money.

As long as the weight (and possibly price) can be split up between a couple of hikers, this is a fantastic tent. I have had more experience with the winter end with this tent and it has not let me down. Close to bombproof. I am liiking forward to opening up the roof and seeing the stars of summertime. It's hard to go wrong with North Face. You pay more but even if the product was not what you expected, it will be of the highest standards and will find a place in your pack .

I love this tent. I've had it 3 seasons and have very few complaints if any. The best feature i thought was how well held up in the Alberta rockies at -30 degrees and with a good amount of snow on it. It is the warmest tent I’ve ever slept in, holds up well in a strong wind and kept me dry in a steady 3-day downpour. I usually set it up solo and find the pole insertion and crossovers no problem at all. It sleeps 2 adults and 2 kids okay but i could never desire to sleep more than 3 adults in this tent. Yes it does have a flat spot on top as others pointed out - never bothered me though. The weight is the biggest problem but only if you are carrying it alone. Also check out TNF outlets for a good deal and then you can't complain about the price either.

Have used this tent extesively as part of a outdoor instructional program I help run. Its big, roomy and with 2 doors, offers easy access. The list of good things stop here.

It can be a pain to set up, with the intricate pole sleeves and crossovers. I would not recommend a solo-attempt. Stakes are a must with the nearly vertical walls creating a large sail area for wind to come at the tent.

I would _not_ recomment the tent for any mountaineering excursion. It does not hold up well to high wind and snow. Watch our for the brow pole which tends to collapse (flip under) under a load of snow. Even if the tent is fully staked out, there is a large flattish area on the top which collects snow and holds it there.

TNF changed the floor plan on the newer models. It is now narrower. We have a mix of old and new ones. You can comfortable sleep 4 in the older models, but strictly 3 in the new ones.
