The single skin design uses a fabric mesh laminated to the underside of the flysheet.VauDe call it the capillary system. This absorbs moisture, caused by sweating and breathing, and drains it downwards into a fabric channel near the bottom rim of the tent and outside into the open air. This has the obvious advantage of only needing one layer for weather protection and is therefore much lighter than conventional two skin tents. This is an excellent tent for backpacking in most conditions. The main diadvantage with this product is that because codensation is absorbed into the mesh lining, the water will freeze below zero turning the fly into stiff cardboard. With two skin tents you can brush the ice off the fly and stuff the tent as you normally would but here, any brushing puts the ice straight into the tent. If it thaws out during the day the iside of the tent will be soaked. VauDe reckon this is a four season tent. It isn't. I'ts more of of a very ligthweight backpackers 3-season tent.Too much money for what you get. But one of the lightest and hassle free tents around. Similar Products Used: Coleman Dakota |
