It is really too bad that this tent was replaced with the Zoid in the Walrus line up. I prefer the weight saved by using only one door and find the curved poles make it more comfortable to sit up inside. Vestibule is small, but large enough to cook in and stow boots. Never had a problem with condensation, even with southern appalatian humidity. On a recent trip to Mt. Rogers, held up to some 30+ mph winds, proving its strenght for a two pole hoop tent. A well though out tent, regret that is its no longer in production.

Not much new I can add to my review that hasn't already been said in the previous ones--the Arch-Rival is a terrific value, even if you pay MSRP. You have to be nimble getting in or out, but I've felt that way with most tents I've entered. I would only share this tent with my girlfriend, it's simply too tight of a squeeze for my comfort if someone else is in there with me. Plenty of head/foot room inside for gear, clothes, etc. I mostly use the Arch-Rival for bike touring, hard to beat for size or weight. If I'm car camping I use my bigger North Face Cirrus tent, but when I actually have to carry weight on my back or bike it's no contest, the Arch-Rival wins hands down. I agree with an earlier reviewer who said the tent poles suck--it didn't take long for mine to bend into fascinating, sculptured pieces of soft metal.

I love this tent. I have been on about five 50 milers in the Uintas with it and has never let me down. My tent has been through some of the worst storms I have ever been in. great tent for the price and it's very light.

For weight, price and reliability, it can't be beat. make sure the seam over the front entrance is outside(towards the front of the tent) the pole or it forms a channel that holds water and allows it to soak into the bungee that can hold the door open. Held up in rain storms that chased a lot of people out with wet bags and clothes.

My girlfriend and I backpacked almost the entire AT with this tent. It never failed us. We finished the AT in Winter and switched tents to a Diamond Mega Mid only because the Mega-Mid was lighter and we did not need the bug screen. The Arch Rival is an excellent tent, takes abuse well, is built well, well ventilated, sets up quick, and is great if weight is REALLY a concern. For the money, you can't go wrong.

My first SERIOUS tent for backpacking, I bought a Walrus Rapeed 9 years ago. It is a 2 hoop design like the Arch Rival. It served me well for those 9 years, but the waterproofing on the material started to wear. But I had no problems with it. So I bought the new Arch Rival last year. I like it even better. It is a bit tight for 2 people, but for around 4 pounds of weight or so, I use it as a huge solo tent. The ventilation is great, as I camp alot in the south. The set up can appear more complicated than a free-standing dome, but all tents really need to be set up right for the rainfly to work properly. I usually have mine set up before everybody else in the group with other tents. The different ventilation options make this a great tent, just not for heavy snow use. But that should be expected. This is not a tent for 2 6 foot campers that don't like each other. Measure out the dimensions to see if it will work for you. If I lost this tent, I would go out and buy another one to replace it.

The customer service at Walrus is absolutely wonderful. They know waht they are talking about, and are willing to help you. I have sent my other tent there several times over the years for repairs due to abuse, not quality, and they have done a great job inexpensively every time. this is a great little tent. I figured that for the money it didn't have to be that nice. But I was plesantly surprised. All the seams are taped and sealed. the pole system is easy to set up and very stable in the wind. With the rain fly on and the optional ground tarp, which I highly recomend getting, I have never had a problem with water seepage at all. My only complaint is that it is not freestanding and can be a little tricky to set up on rocky ground, but who wants to sleep on rocky ground any way. All in all it has been very durable and dependable with no breakage or sever ripping in about two years of use. It is however a 3 season tent at best, I would call it a more of a two season.
It is also extremely light especially for the price and knowing how durable it is. I highly recomend if for soloers who toss and turn alot or even for bicycle touring since it fits so nicely on a rear rack. You can even fit two people in one as long as one of them is very short.

I bought this tent after using a walrus Rapeede in the summer in VA. The Arch Rival XV (99 model) packs small and light, stays very dry and ventilates very well. It would qualify for two persons if they were very short, thin, minimal gear types. great for maybe dad and a small kid or a dry spot for your mutt. Works best for me as a solo with room inside for my pack and gear. The vestibule is tiny and makes entry and exit a limbo training event, but it greatly aids the ventilation and weatherproofing. It takes at least 7 stakes to get this tent nailed down to shed a heavy rain, and like most vendors, Walrus provides stakes that are only slightly better than a strand of pasta. Get some kelty no bendiums. After 15 nites or so, the stuff sack developed holes from the poles rubbing, but the tent looks great. Spend the extra 30.00 for the "footprint" groundsheet.

A greast backpacking tent for hiking with a friend. Tent and poles split the wieght nicely and are both easy to pack. This tent will serve you well through multiple day hikes with no problems. Fly works great even in worst weather and ventalation is excellent. A great buy for a very versitale tent.

I recently picked a new XV for $99... hard to pass up at that price. It has seen several trips to the alpine and a few backyard outings with my 6 yr old. I sealed the corner/edge seams. It has seen some severe mountain precip including marble sized hail. Good Points: I stayed dry and so did most of my gear. It sets up in less than 5 min but you can mess with different tensioning angles for hours trying to get some of the sag out..if your inclinded. Zippers worked without any hangups. The sides come up a good 6 inches preventing splash-in water. Bad Points: because a limited amount of difficult to remove sag some water forms on the underside of the fly. I don't believe much water entered this way but its a minor grip. 2 adults should be very friendly if they're going to use this big bivy..it's tight. I'm even reconsidering whether there's enough room for my 12 son and I as I planned. Gear's going outside reguardless. The vestibule works for boots and misc gear..or maybe one pack..but you'll have to climb over it ..that's a pain. Overall I'm very pleased with the quality and design of this big bivy and would buy it again.
