Strength:
You can’t buy these new anymore but if you can pick one up used, it’s worth it. I bought mine new in 1996 or 97. I have used it ever since. I have used it in the Table Mountain Wilderness of Nevada, Desert National Wildlife Refuge, along the Colorado in Az, Shenandoah NP, Isle Royale NP, Boundary Water Canoe Wilderness and on and on. I have sat out numerous wind and rain storms with no problems or leaks. The most recent trip was a very wet, windy canoe trip in the Boundary Waters in 2019. Still keeping me dry after all these years. Weakness:
Newer tents don’t put the poles through sleeves like this one. Also for a two-man tent, this is on the heavy side. I have a three person Big Agnes that’s lighter, but everyone in my family prefers sleeping in this one. Price Paid: 200
Purchased: New
Model Year: 1997

Bought my Starstreme almost 5 years ago and have used ir intensively. I used it as my shelter for 11 months while doing research in the Peruvian Amazonia. The tent is just great. Poles are very resistant and havent break yet. The fly is absolutelly waterproof. Just came from the andes 3 days ago and the tent behave perfectly under night long rains. Mine is getting a bit old, but I will purchase another one right away if givven the chance. Any body knows where can I get a new one? vestibule is good for storing backpacks or cooking under heavy rains. Floor is rather thin but resistant. In all the best tent I ever used. Customer Service We dont have one in Perú. Similar Products Used: The North Face Peregrine is nos as water proof and the poles break easily. Not like the Walrus at all! Hellsport Rondane (Norway) havent used it that much although it looks pretty good |

I have had my Walrus 5 years and still really like it! I have used it from the beach to narrow ledges on mountains, in severe weather and sun, and on several week long trips; it always works for me! Poles are good quality. Gear loft works well, although it can be a challenge to connect up (but this is true of all tents I am familiar with). Has nice pockets near the door, big enough for a flashlight and wallet & some small odds & ends. Mesh is strong, has good visibility on clear nights. The shape of the tent deals with wind well, after a really blowy night my tent was the only one standing. Rain fly is excellent, I have never gotten wet from above. Easy to pitch, although getting the poles into place can be a challenge when the temperature is below 0. Similar Products Used: None |

Have used this tent on numerous occasions and believe it's one of the best designed tents around, not to mention a solid value as well. It's construction is first rate, and set-up is a snap. The ventilation is all you could ever ask for, and the hooped vestibule is a real plus. It rides out high winds and rain with ease, and does not leak a drop. Its interior volume is very comfortable for two adults and could easily manage a third in a pinch. Peak height is excellent, and entry and exit are a breeze. It's all you need and more in a nicely designed 3 season tent. Similar Products Used: None |

Excellent space for the money. The vestibule is big enough to store two packs easily and the mesh allows for excellent stargazing on those non-rainy nights. The poles are of excellent quality and have never given me any trouble. Highly recommend Customer Service Customer service was great about answering questions and concerns and can steer you towards a great tent for your needs |

I've always been a big fan of Walrus tents. They are one of the best tents you can get for the price. The classic starstreame is no exception. It is a little on the heavy end of a two to three man, three season, but it's extremely roomy and has excellent waterproofing. It's easy to set up, but there are a lot of guy out points, which is kind of tedious. overall though this is rad tent. Customer Service Really good warranty and the customer service is really good. |

After significant investigation I selected a Walrus Starstreme tent for 3 season backpacking in the western US. I was looking for excellent materials/construction, design, floor space, heigth, weight, etc. (the usual criteria). After almost a year, I am most pleased with the tent. Easy set-up; not the lightest, but acceptable weight; great rain fly, material and design. Exceptional in rain/wind storms. Much versitiltiy in configuration options. While you can spend a bunch more, I consider this a great "bang for the buck" tent. If I could improve anything it would be to increase the sq. footage of the vestibule. |

I have had my Starstream for four years and have used it in many different types of terrain and weather conditions. The rainfly is effective altho the vestibule could be a bit larger. The best features on this tent are the excellent ventillation and strategic netting for mosquito free stargazing on those warm summer nights during the persiade meteor showers.
