Rock solid performer. Spent a night up on Mt. Evans with the wind HOWLING and the tent did fine with stakes but no guy lines. Performs well in rain. Have used this tent backpacking 4 times. It is a little heavy and bulky when soloing but it performs so well and is so roomy it is almost worth it. It sets up quickly and easily and is very taut and stable without guying.

Customer Service

Walrus has been purchased by MSR and they are a little difficult to contact. I have never had any problems with this tent but in trying to track down a Zoid 1.5 I had to resort to an email to MSR tha

I chose this tent over several others and could not be happier after a week of car-camping in wet, windy weather -- a couple of hours of rain every day.

This tent is a good, watertight, windproof shelter for two that allows you to pull in a good deal of gear. I was worried that the vestibule would be too small, but it kept a pair of sandals and a pair of trail shoes dry the entire week, even with the front vent open.

The fly vents and zippered mesh panels allow outstanding ventilation for a four-season tent, and the taped seams and coated fabrics turn back rain easily. I was the only one in our group who saw no rain or condensation in his tent. Even when water pooled on the fly (which I solved by using a couple of the included guy lines), it did not penetrate the fabric.

It's a bit heavy for a backpacking tent -- just share the load with a partner. I'm hoping for some drier camping this summer/fall so I can try the "fastpacking" option that uses the poles, fly, and groundcloth to form a tarp-like structure.

Found the 3.0 while trying to find a discount deal on the basic terramoto. This one was cheaper, bigger, only slightly heavier. Got it on closeout at REI outlet (They now have model years on tents?). Glad I got the bigger size, because on cruddy days you have room to empty your pack, sort and organize, without hitting your partner in the head all the time. This one's done duty in the rockies and the baja without a problem. Venting system is nice and keeps you dry from both inside and outside moisture. Nice in hot weather because you can ditch part and just go with the bug netting. At 7 lbs. not an ultralight, but nice to have when things get nasty. Could be more than a little cozy if you actually were sleeping three in it every night.
