Great helmet; adjustment wheels will make your life so much easier: going from a sun hat to a windstopper hat takes no time. Pretty good ventilation - never felt too hot in it; I tend to do winter climbing mostly though:) Headlamp fits reliably and pretty easily. Mine lived thru three years of falling ice and rock (nothing major fortunately). The only minus I could think of is that it's slightly (50g) heavier some some other helmets - adjustability is well worth the extra weight for me. Outstanding. After three years of use one of the adjustment wheels broke off. I got a response to my email within 10 minutes and a new helmet within ten days.

Most of the gear I buy gets damaged pretty quickly, but not this helmet. It's incredibly tough and durable, and has stood up to dropping off small cliffs, being rammed into already full rucksacs, being kicked around on the floors of cars, and most importantly being pelted with rocks and chunks of ice. I've been hit on the head a few times wearing it, albeit by fairly small rocks (less than fist-sized), and it absorbs the impact well-it certainly doesn't hurt. The deservedly popular adjustment system makes this helmet ideal for year round use-it's very easy to make a quick change to put on a hat, or even for you to share the helmet on a route. The only problem I have with it is that it's quite bulky, and takes up a lot of space in my bag. But then, so do most helmets. The comfort and ease of use more than makes up for this-if you want, you can always wear it on the walk in to save space, it's certainly comfortable enough with a good cradle and excellent ventilation. This is a helmet that seems to have it all. You'll struggle to do better.

Blue Water helmet and Petzl Meteor

Probably the best helmet out on the market today. Tough, lightweight, and very comfortable. Compatible with a wide selection of headlamps, and can be easily adjusted to fit over a cap. The only piece of gear I have not had to upgrade since I began climbing.

Nothing feels more comforting that a solid piece of pro on your head. It is popular for a good reason, it can take a lot of abuse. I took the hammer end of a popped-out ice axe square on it without so much as a dent. It also fits great right under the hood of my parka and a fleece liner fits well under it. Only qualms are that it seems to be made for narrow heads. My head gets a bit squeezed by it and it can be uncomfortable at first.

This helmet is the best I ever used (I am on my third). The straps are well placed and the inside cushions are broad enough to hold tight to your head. The adjustment dial for this is very easy to micro adjust unlike other helmets. I went caving (used the helmet alot) on new years eve and it worked great.

helmet is very comfortable and adjustable. the styling is not the greatest but come on, climbers aren't about style =). do wish that for the price i paid, it came with a headlamp holder.

There are no better! The number of helmets is expanding quickly, but for a durable helmet that will protect your head and be comfortable there is no better. Headlamp attaches easily. Good ventilation. I've used it for mountaineering, ice climbing, rock climbing and caving. I am so happy with this helmet. Buy one and love it!

Petzl Meteor. Lighter but much more fragile.

It's no wonder this helmet has so many positive reviews, it's the standard by which all other helmets are measured. From the awesome adjustability, which allows you to quickly resize the helmet to fit over a hat, and back again, to its bombproof construction, this helmet is top notch. While I use it for big walls and areas prone to rockfall, I tend to favor the Petzl Meteor for cragging as it's lighter and is better for side impacts.
