These boots are a mix of everything. They are slightly flexable for hiking but they are also stiff enough to do some ice climbing. Howevere, these boots will not exept step in crampons due to the fact that they are not stiff enough. If you are looking for a boot that will do just about everything- these are them. If you want a boot only to hike in: get a midweight hiker. If you want a boot to mainly ice climb in: get a stiffer boot. You will find that if you get into ice climbing you quickly out grow this boot.
