Strength:
The new board lets you be more centered, you actually ride better leaning downhill into the chop while carving. If you go too much in the back seat on chop it gets a little wavy, but never chatters. transmission repair Weakness:
None .. . Purchased: New

I see the Appalchian as a hybrid. I do a lot of whitewater (have guided over 70 trips on the Madawaska, Here in Canada). It's class 3 rating is legit and I have used it in 4-5 successfully as well', but's less than ideal rocker, tumblehome + a bottom too flat, it taxes one's skills, especially for an old timer like me (67). However, this makes it easier for a novice to manoeuvre. On the plus side, the ideal whitewater boats, however are not so good in wind due to their higher free board. Another disappointment is what Old Town passes off as a yoke! You'll need to get a pad to make this at all usable for serious portages - I've replaced it with one of my own. But I don't just play in rapids but do trips that are as much about the camping and do some flat water trips as well. That where the Applachian works well - as a general purpose tripping canoe.... but please include a decent yoke! I also recommend facing the yoke the other way so you can grip the thwart rather than the side of the canoe = more comfortable/less strain. Customer Service Haven't needed any :) |
