Strength:
If you come across a used one, grab it. It is a very versatile boat. It has served me well since around 2002 when I bought it for use on the Chattahoochee river in Georgia. It works very well on an upstream run, given the long hull and resulting efficiency despite being very wide of beam and comfortable to sit in. It provides good maneuvering on the downstream legs. I often take my dogs, just have a 3" thick foam pad for them in the front, and I paddle from the back. It has been very durable, stored out in the elements all this time, with just a coat of 303 spray every few years. Hatch covers are still good. Get the cockpit cover if you can find it if it will be stored outside. Weakness:
The foot pegs, especially the front ones, are pretty flimsy and don't stay locked in place very well. Price Paid: $700
Purchased: New
Model Year: 2001

Very flexible kayak. I've used it solo, with my wife and kid, and with other non-paddlers. The boat is pretty fast for a rec boat, very stable (even with my daughter bouncing around in the middle), and plenty maneuverable. I would highly recommend this as a family boat. It does quite well on lakes, rivers, and even calm seas. There's even the capacity to carry some gear for camping. I've been very impressed with the boat. |
