I recently purchased the Peak XV, it has the 850 fill power rating and a heavy ripstop nylon shell. This jacket is amazing! I took it on an ice fishing trip at Devils Creek just outside of Pocatello Idaho. All the other guys froze their cans off! I was toasty warm with 30 to 40 mile an hour winds! The only thing that got cold were my hands when I had to take the gloves off to unhook the fish. They instantly turned numb from the snow and wind. I paid about $250.00 including tax, with a 20% off coupon I got from the store. Try this jacket first before dropping another $500.00 on this feathered friends coat. If you don't like it Eddie Bauer has an unconditional return policy. I don't mean to bash on the rock and ice coat, but this coat is used to summit Everest at 28,000 feet! For a 1/3 of the price! |

I just bought the Rock and Ice parka. This jacket is 609 grams of 850+down fill. It has the event outer shell. I bought a large and it fits perfect. I'm 5'11,190lbs. Wow, this is a great jacket. I'm in Chicago, where the wind chill gets to -45. I'm outside for 6 or more hours at a time. All I wear underneath is a t-shirt and I have to trouble keeping warm. You get what you pay for. I highly recommend this jacket. Customer Service Customer service needs a lot of work. Stay away from Brain or Todd. Similar Products Used: Rab Expedition, Marmot 8000m |

Extraordinarily warm, lightweight, roomy, and comfortable. I've been an amateur astronomer for over 40 years. When standing at a telescope on cold nights, you're burning very few calories and you need a GOOD coat (or many layers) to keep you warm. Plus, clothing has to be breathable so you don't get too sweaty when hauling and setting up a lot of gear and heavy and equipment. This caot does just that. It is the best, warmest coat I've ever had. I've used it for two years now and am vey satisfied with it. Be warned, though: it is VERY, VERY warm. So, don't expect to wear it around for commuting or shopping unless it's COLD (and I mean COLD)! It is expensive, BUT you are getting a very high quality product. This is truly a case where you get what you pay for. I would gladly buy this again... but as well as it's made, and for what I use it for, I expect it will last a lifetime! Customer Service Two thumbs up. Good info on my telephone order, fast shipping, well packed, good care instructions. Similar Products Used: REI Co-op Down Parka purchased in 1973 (for about $129... don't remember the name). Outstanding quality (it did last almost 30 years) If I used layering, it would keep me as warm as the Rock and Ice, |

Used my Rock and Ice on Denali a few years ago. At minus 20, it's super warm. Fits great, quality is first class. The only problem is that it's too warm for most activities but then I bought it for big mountains and up high, it's the best there is. Customer Service The guy on the phone was helpful when I bought it - with zero problems, I've never had to call them back. Similar Products Used: I've never owned another brand but haven't seen anything in the mountains yet that compares to the Rock and Ice if it's really cold where you're going. |
