Feathered Friends Volant Jacket Down Insulation

Feathered Friends Volant Jacket Down Insulation

DESCRIPTION

We've had rave reviews from sport climbers, alpine climbers, ice climbers, expedition climbers and non-climbers, all praising the lightweight warmth of our Volant Jacket. Cut the same as our super-light Helios, it uses PTFE-Lite for the outer fabric, giving total wind protection and great water resistance.

A great jacket. I have the PTFE lite version and haven't had any problem with down leaking out. The hood design is very good but the way it attaches to the jacket leaves a bit to be desired. It attaches to the collar with 4 or 5 small snaps. The elastic used to make the pocket closure is great. It seals the pocket around the wrist so you dont get cold drafts in the handwarmer pockets. A bit heavier than the Helios and doesn't stuff quite as small, but it's got a bit more fill too. Overall a great all around down jacket.

Great jacket; it should be for the money. I also have the DryLoft version and have worn it extensively in the snow with no problems. Very warm--I just wear a polypro shirt under it if the temp is between 15-30F. If it's too cold to be outside with this jacket and layers, it's too cold to be out. Note jacket is cut short so no butt protection but maybe better for harness wearers. Good idea with the extra material on the shoulders.

Flakes 'r' us, but you'll get it eventually.

The volant is a great deal. I have the dryloft version and it is an instant heat source when needed. The shell offers great protection from the ever damp northwest.
