Arc Teryx Gamma MX Hoody Shell Jackets

Arc Teryx Gamma MX Hoody Shell Jackets

DESCRIPTION

Arc'teryx Gamma MX Jacket, with the same warm and lightweight Polartec Power Shield fleece fabric in an identical athletic cut. The fabric features a special DWR finish that keeps moisture away from your skin on misty mornings and foggy ascents. Unlike most so-called performance fleece, Polartec Power Shield fabric is exceptionally resilient to wear and won't snag like other material. Gear and gadget freaks will appreciate the five storage pockets, including a laminated sleeve pocket sized for a two-way radio. Interior front zipper wind flaps and an adjustable hem drawcord help seal out cool breezes.

Mountaineer

I was looking for a soft-shell for winter mountaineering that had a hood -- something to help warm me up when I'm getting started in the morning, and something to help with wind above treeline. This piece, like all arc'teryx products, was pricey (got it at 20% off list in Altrec sale), but it is great. Very well made, worked wonderfully well this past weekend in the Adirondacks (single digits temps (F) and 25 mph winds at the summit; put on the gamma mx hoody as my outer layer, and I was in great shape for my brief stay up top). If you get this jacket, you'll be happy with it.

Mountain Hardwear Synchro -- also a good soft-shell, but no hood (they do now have a hooded version, but for some incomprehensible reason, they removed the zipper storm flaps from the hooded version, making it less useful)
