Arc Teryx Theta AR Shell Jackets

Arc Teryx Theta AR Shell Jackets

DESCRIPTION

The design brief was to create the ultimate all-round jacket. It's tough and lightweight with additional reinforcement in all the right places. Absolute performance for year-round activities where greater durability and versatility are needed without comprimises for technical activities.

After 3 years of decent use from a Lowe jacket I decided to buy myself a new item. I looked around a GREAT deal and having bought the Theta AR with some trepidation (450 bucks is expensive) I'm rather pleased to say the least. Now that it's mine, I think it is simple the best jacket I've ever owned. This thing truly is engineered like a work of art. Whoever designed this really thought hard about it all. It may miss a snow skirt and a water bottle holder, but to be honest I've barely ever used them on my Lowe so I won't miss them. The fit is perfect allowing freedom of movement. And it's light. Still can't believe it's 3-layer XCR.
I really did think long and hard about what to get and I was close to getting an Marmot Alpinist III but Arc'teryx really got me withe the intelligent design. It really has everything I want and no frills. Just perfect. This jacket is the business. Winter here we come!

The only thing I've got to complain about is the collar. It's a bit wide and folds in where the hood is sewn in. A little sparse on the pockets, and the sleeve pocket is missing the little black tab that all the other zippers on the jacket have. Otherwise, it pretty much fits the definition of "bomb proof". The extra material used for the waist drawstring can just about pass for a powder skirt, although not quite. I wish it would rain some more though, seems like ever since I bought this thing the rain's been avoiding Mich. (Hey, it was flooding here a month ago~!)

The first thing I noticed about this was its fit. It's nice and snug. I got sick of wearing a tent when it rains, and this is definetely no tent. It has unmatched style and performance. This year's (2001) model has the new XCR Gore tex which really does make a difference in breathability. All in all, it's the best, and most expensive, jacket I've ever had the pleasure of using.
