This is a great jacket. The Denali strikes an excellent balance between durability and weight conservancy: being made of tough cordura in high wearing areas and a light rip-stop in the rest. This thing is really comfortable to wear: articulated arms, soft mesh: i slept in it on several warm nights in the Smokies with no bag. On a 2 week trip on constant rain in VA, I wore it most of the time and never got overheated, thanks to the generous pit-zips and front pockets that double as core-vents. This jacket uses marmot''s Membraine w/b fabric: and I beleive it is just as good as gore-tex. The Enduro DWR coating is excellent at shunning water with avengence: droplets just run off the jacket, and if you give it a good shake almost all remaining moiture will come off. Also the Denali is loaded with thoughtful features: soft micro-fleece by your face, perepheral hood adjustment, lots of pockets (i esp. like the "nepolean" pocket), and all the pockets are placed so as not to interfere with pack straps. I have a couple minor complaints. 1)There is no good way to store the Denali''s hood: it has a little velcro strap on the back of the hood but i cant find anything to hook it to except the hanging tab in inside the collar. 2) There is pocket on the inside in the same place as an identical one of the outside, and i think that this pocket is unnecessary and only decreases the effectiveness of the core-vent on that side. 3) Perhaps in would''ve been good to have the tougher fabric around the hip-belt area as well, but this would''ve made more weight so it''s a trade off. But do not be dissueded by my nitpicky compliants. All n all this is an excellent peice of technical clothing.

Customer Service

I tried emailing marmot asking them about the weird hood storage system of this jacket, and a couple questions about zip-in features, but i did not get a reply.

I previously owned the climber III parka, and found it bulky, and heavy.I have recently replaced it with the Denali III,a slightly less bombproof jacket, but far less bulky, and substantially more breathable.I have used it now on several winter treks, including some 14,000" ascents in Colo.It has performed flawlessly. The 3 layer Gore tex of the climber jkt is more durable, but only slightly,And I find Marmots membrain fabric as durable,Lighter, and more breathable, and has done well in windy conditions above timberline, and on corniced ridges,A bit of a trim fit though,if you are a larger person go with the Climber III.
