I have the Ascent Tundra jacket - it is basically an insulated version of the Ascent. The insulation is what looks like a 100-weight fleece in the torso and hollofill-type insulation (with nylon lining) in the sleeves and below the waist. The jacket is warm, waterproof, comfortable and good looking. However, I expected more attention to detail from Mountain Hardware. The chin flap often gets caught in the zipper when you zip the jacket up. The hood is not very adjustable (only one cord). The hood adjustment cord is hard to grip and when you pull on it the snap closure that holds the sides of the hood has a tendency to come apart. You can roll the hood up and store it in the collar but then the collar becomes too stiff and tight and almost impossible to comfortably zip up. The nylon lined insulation in the sleeves makes the jacket easy to put on but it feels bulky when I wear my 200-weight fleece under it. 100-weight fleece feels ok. Bottom line: not a bad jacket, but if you need a technical shell for demanding conditions - look elsewhere. Similar Products Used: Marmot Treviso, Arcteryx Beta LT |

I like my Ascent jacket. One of its best qualities is that it is light. Also, when hiking in close quarters(bryars, thorns, etc..) the jacket didn't seem to get as tangled as others I've had. It kept me warm but was never really too heavy to wear in warmer weather. Its a fine jacket that is great for any backpacker. Similar Products Used: None |

Im really happy with this jacket. I wear it when skiing and the well-designed hood is perfect with goggles. A small patch of fleece over the nose and mouth area is appreciated when the temp dips. The conduit fabric is just as waterproof as goretex. It passed the test when,as part of a job, I had to stand outside in the pouring rain for 5 hours. No leaks. Very light, very packable. Great jacket. I used this multiple times this summer while out backpacking and doing trail maintenace for the Student Conservation Assoc. It is a great jacket, very light and very comfortable. The Pit Zips seem to be very efficient at creating air flow, and the hide away hood is a great Idea. Plus, I have it in the orange color, so not only will Ibe easy to find in the woods(and won't get shot at) but also it makes it a unique looking jacket. Similar Products Used: Campmor |
