Mountain Hardwear Exposure Parka Shell Jackets

Mountain Hardwear Exposure Parka Shell Jackets

DESCRIPTION

Built tough to take on the rigors of heavy use, the Exposure Parka is the choice of mountain professionals and fanatical recreationalists alike. Polyester reinforcements protect the shell from sharp rock and ice. Our extra-long, waterproof Simplex pit zips provide maximum ventilation for the CoolMax mesh-lined torso, and our Welded Waistcord reduces wear and tear in an area prone to abrasion. A powder skirt (with gripper elastic) keeps snow from invading your inner layers. The Ergo Hood keeps your head covered and your vision clear. You can access the Napoleon pocket without opening the front zipper, an inner pocket keeps a quart-sized water bottle from freezing, and fleece-lined hand pockets cradle cold fingers.

I've spent many days wearing my Exposure parka in the Cascades and Sierras during the worst possible conditions you can throw at a shell. This awsome piece of technical clothing kept me dry in even in rain and mixed wet snow conditions, and it kept out the wind. Its tough outer layer when completely soaked dries in just hours when kept in a near freezing tent.

A great deal of thought must have gone into the design and construction. Bells and whistles which might add extra weight and bulk have been avoided, yet the parka retains useful features like large pit zips, velcro cuffs, inner pockets, and fleece lining in the outer pockets.

After a winter ski season and a spring climbing season of use, my Exposure parka still looks like it just came off the retailer's rack. I just can't say enough about it. It was expensive, yes, but it has already been worth every cent and will continue to perform for years to come. All that, and it looks good when worn in town too!

I have owned an Exposure Parka & used it extensively for snowboarding for the past two seasons. It is absolutely the best I have owned. No feature was left out -- completely functional!
Could not recommend it more highly.

Customer Service

These guys are super responsive to any concerns from the customer. My wife's Etehreal FTX parka had a small area of wear-through on the shell fabric (probably a snag or chairlift abrasion) which was fixed with the application of a cordura patch free of charge. They even placed a matching one on the opposite side to complete the repair in a cosmetic fashion! The return was handled very promptly & looked as though it was made that way from the factory.

I purchased my wife the Exposure Parka for Christmas 2 years ago. She has absolutely loved it since the first time she put it on. We actively ski and backpack and this jacket has yet allowed water or cold temps to penetrate its barrier. It is definately a superb jacket that should give her many years of use. Also note that caring for the jacket is extremely easy and it comes out looking new after every wash.

I have been snowboarding for about 3 years now and have recently begun spending more and more time in the mountains. I initially bought a cheaper, "fashionable" coat and pants from a trendy snowboard/ski clothing manufacturer and rode in that gear for 3 years. I didn't know what I was missing, I just knew that I was always getting wet and cold... I just figured that was the price you pay for enjoying the mountains. I was wrong.

This season I bought the Mountain Hardware Exposure Parka and Pants and the change is unbelievable. We get some harsh weather and heavy, heavy snowfalls up here in the Cascade Range (Mt. Baker, Mt. Raineer, etc.) and this gear keeps me warm and dry. I have yet to have moisture in a significant amount make its way through the double gortex of this jacket and pants. While a lot of my friends are cringing from the sideways ice masquerading as snow that's blowing at us, I'm toasty in my gear and picking my line.

This coat has all of the features a person really needs for off-piste riding; features like pit zips, an internal pocket you can get to without unzipping the coat, articulated reinforced sleeves, an awesome hood that even fits well over a helmet, a powder skirt, and more.

My only complaints (and they're not huge ones at that), are that the coat could be a little longer and the chest pockets could be lower. I'm 6'4" and the coat seems a little short. I've compared Marmot, North Face, and Mountain Hardware and they all seem to have this problem. It's definitely not an issue to stress over however, bordering on cosmetic rather than function.

Customer Service

Not much experience first hand with customer service, but I don't expect any problems. The gear comes with a lifetime warranty and my friend who sells the gear confirms this. He did mention though that he hasn't had much chance to test the customer service because noone ever seems to have a problem with the gear. The quality is there.

This was my first real technical gore-tex shell after my MEC shell was ripped off in Tokyo. It was pricey but like everyone else has said, it's quality and attention to detail is second to none. I wear it skiing and climbing and have no real complaints other than that it is a little too heavy to wear on warm days.

This jacket is the best jacket I have owned albeit a little heavy. It is extremely waterproof and is as bomber as they come. The pit zips are easy to open unlike other jackets. It has plenty of pockets to keep things in including one for a nalgene bottle inside so your water doesn't freeze on your trips. Overall an exzcellent shell. I own a Patagonia Super Alpine jacket and this has more features than that jacket but it is also heavier. Anyone interested in a jacket that will last a long time this is it.
