Mountain Hardwear Nut Shell Jacket Shell Jackets

Mountain Hardwear Nut Shell Jacket Shell Jackets

DESCRIPTION

Sharing many attributes with our waterproof/breathable shells, the ultra-breathable Nut Shell Jacket provides protection from wind, dry snow, and light rain. Critical areas on the hood, shoulders, sleeves, and lumbar region are overlaid with abrasion-resistant nylon oxford coated with waterproof polyurethane. A full-coverage hood rolls to form a comfortable collar when not in use, articulated sleeves assure full range of motion, and extra-long pit zips vent the torso. The hem and hood drawcords each adjust with one hand, an inside water-bottle pocket teams with two chest and two hand pockets to carry essentials.

Looks cool and works great as a windbreaker, but should not be taken out into the rain. a slight drizzle is ok, but any heavy rain and you''re gonna get wet. i love the hood, especially in light rain, but i hate that silly looking bill on it. the price is hard to beat. if you''re looking for a casual windbreaker for class or day hikes its tough to beat.

This jacket is an exceptional windbreaker/light (and I mean light) rain jacket. It has a lot of nice features for the price. I like the large pit-zips, long front zipper, and numerous pockets. This is the perfect spring boarding jacket (only if it doesn't snow).

Comfortable, well-made. Not intended to be waterproof. Essentially, this is a sophisticated windbreaker. Positives:
nice pockets
nice pitzips
nice color
nice cut/design for the most part

Negatives
hood roll-down to collar very uncomfortable for me - why do I need a hood on a windbreaker anyway?
no snap/velcro storm flap on zippers - in really strong winds, it blow to one side and is vestigial
fabric interior is not smooth - fleece kind of binds ever so slightly as your putting the jacket on and as you move.

Overall: it fills a nice niche as a technical jacket that works fairly well in any condition up to rain.

Nice jacket at a good price.

Positives for this jacket:
+ Great price considering the features
+ Good looking jacket
+ Comfortable hood with bill to keep rain off the face. Hood also rolls away to a collar - this works really well
+ Lightweight and very packable

Downsides:
- Not all that waterproof - in (admittedly very heavy) rain, water tends to soak through the shoulders
- No second zip to mate a matching fleece
