Strength:

Medium to long radius turns at medium to high speeds in nearly all snow conditions.

Weakness:

Very hard snow. Deep powder. Not totally bomb proof at high speeds off piste. Not as good on hard snow at high speeds as my Volkl GS boards. (:

This review is for the 2001 K2 Axis Mod X Pro, 188cm long mounted with Salomon S912 bindings. Boots are Salomon Crossmax 10's. The skier is 6' tall and 180lbs, skis fast all over the mountain. I purchased these skis after being away from skiing for several years. In the past I have only been happy with long GS skis. Last year I decided to take a chance and try an all mountain ski. I was not disappointed. These skis are effortless to turn, stable at all but the fastest speeds and incredibly versatile. As these are the first "shaped" skis that I have purchased, I did have to learn to ski them a little differently to get the most out of them. Very easy to ski as a cruiser but they really shine if you push them. Lots of rebound if skied hard. If you can only own one pair of skis these are awesome. There still may be some good deals on these skis, especially in the longer lengths, if you look around. If you are a strong skier don't be afraid of the longer skis. In my opinion these skis do not ski as "long" as some other "All Mountain" skis.

Strength:

All around versitility, flexibility, powder performance, short turns, long turns.

Weakness:

highest speeds need an edge to be happy. super hard ice might make them squeam a bit.

This is a great all around ski. I went short (174) and this ski rips. Turn it on edge and cruise, or throw it around for quick turns. Very nice out west, but suprisingly versitile for the east as well.

Strength:

*Strong and stable at high speed and in crud *Quick turning and lively. *Moguls (unless you bang the moguls like olympic level mogulers who may require more flex and less rebound.)

Weakness:

If you regularly ski powder deeper than 6 inches you may want another ski which is why I am thinking about trying the 03 model which went 7-8mm wider throughout the whole profile (78mm waist instead of the 70mm waist)

This ski is the best ski I have skied on. I am a light(145lb) but aggressive skier and the 181cm is perfect. They turn easily without effort but when you do put effort and power into your turns they are lively and spring back saying give me more. Very stable and confident at speed and in crud. I read in the product specifications at the top of this review that it loves high speed long radius turns but I love it for its quick turning ability including in the moguls.

The Axis X pro is a very good ski. The Axis X is so so. The X Pro is a great compromise ski in my humble opinion, bit there are better skis for the different conditions that the X pro can hanle. I have a pair of Merlin VI that have the same construction of the X pro (glass metal laminate) and they are the precursor of the X Pro but are thinner and longer: better on ice than the X pro/ I also have a pair of Xplorers that have the same footprint of the X pro,but are a little softer and are better than the X pro on soft snow. TOO BAD thta they do not make either anymore!

OK. I once had a pair of ski replaced. However it took a long time and I had to go through the store where I bought them

On my last trip out West this year I demoed a handful of the top skis, and walked away with the K2 Axis XP as the clear winner. To sum it up "THEY RIP". I've never been able to fly through heavy crud faster, with the confidence I did. I tried the 188, but they're a lot to handle. The 181 is all you'll need. I ski agressively, and fast. Topping the scales at 220 the 181 never left me needing anything else. A must try ski!

If you haven't tried them then you do not know what you are missing. They are awesome. The faster you go the better they get. The first time I tried them I felt they were a little stiff in the bumps, but putting Market 1200 Pistons bindings smoothed them out. Now I will take on anything. In Australia where we shi on ice allot, on these ski you ust say "what ice" they grip that well.

These are just awesome skis. I demoed lots of others at Sunday River. The Axis Pro is more stable at speed than everything but the Atomic betaRace, but that was the most unforgiving ski I have ever been on. This ski is WAY energetic. It loves to rip big long turns, but if you do short quick turns it will launch you out of the turns like a jet engine!

I rode a pair of K2 Axis X Pro skis at Whistler for a couple of days this past week in Whistler. We had everything from cold (-12C) with fresh snow to warm (+1) with slush at the bottom and these skis handled it all! I would agree with the other reviewer here, that if you ski moguls a lot don''t buy these, they have a titanium plate in them, unlike the K2 Mod X and this makes them a little too stiff for bouncing through the bumps. I had some difficulty on the moguls with these skis. However, I found these skis to be very solid at speed and when at their peak radius. Awesome actually. They even readily accepted those shorter radius turns when necessary. I absolutely enjoyed these skis and would recommend them for sure!!

The stability and control they offer at high(!) speed makes you crazy – because they simply make you a better skier ! They inspire a self-confidence which is almost unhealthy; you easily end up with ”stupid fast”-skiing - and it doesn’t even bother you. They are fast, they turn like a Monte Carlo race car, they pass through powder and trees or whatever comes in their way. They make you ski all over the place – and the ride feels like a walk in the park. They simply do what you want them to do – with no questions asked. These skis are FUN !!! They are ”must buys” !

Great ski for the big mountains, not Colorado where I ski mostly these days. The Axis X pro is much better than the Mod X pro of which I broke 2 pairs last year. This ski is the Cadillac of skies in the crud, with long smooth turns and is great for big air. In the moguls they are a little slow to respond therefore I would recommend going with the shorter ski if you are in-between. Overall the ski is one of the best all mountain skies that I’ve been on but if you ski the moguls a lot get something else.

Customer Service

It took 2 or 3 weeks to get the Axis X pro after I broke the second mod x.
