Strength:
Great all mountain ski. Stable even in shorter lengths.
Weakness:
Price. I paid too much to get these on my feet right away. Much better value now. Made me a better skier immediately. Demo in 11" new powder was best day I've ever had on skis, so bought a pair the next day. I'm 6'-1" and 175 lb but bought the 174 cm. Easy quick turns but also stable at high speed. Nimble in the trees. Bashes confidently thru crud. |

Strength:
I found it was stable at speed, and gave me confidence to travel faster than I have been since middle age hit. Despite this it relatively soft in bumps - unlike other reviewers I thought it was good in moguls
Weakness:
Good general ski - very forgiving although I am suspicous about how many seasons it would last I leased the K2 Axis X for a day as I am considering purchasing. The snow conditions on Ruapehu, a volcano in the middle of New Zealand are poor by international standards. I found the ski to be very effective in the slushy, conditions that are typical of the spring snow. I have demo'ed a wide variety of skis while testing options and believe this to be my favourite ski - although the volkly 724 is tough competition. I skied a 176- which was a good length - despite the fact that a local shop is selling its 181's at half price. Similar Products Used: crossmax 10, crossmax 7, volkl 724 pro, rossignol rpm, |

Demo'd these during a 6 skiing day trip at Winter Park, CO. Brought a pair of skiis with me on this trip but thought I'd try something new. What a difference! Blasts through powder, carves up corduroy and hard pack. So-so through moguls. I am a strong intermediate skiier (6'2", 210) and like to ski fast down groomed and (with now, with this ski) ungroomed runs. My old skiis are 188 Merlin IV's Tried going back to the Merlins but they were a lot more work. My legs are usually burned out by 2:30, but I on the Axis I skiied until the lifts closed! Went back and rented the Axis for the remainder of the trip. I loved these skiis, but strongly advise you narrow your choices down to 2-4 skiis then demo them all. On the mountain rental shops will let you demo multiple skiis in a single day for one price. Well worth the investment. Similar Products Used: K2 Merlin IV, Merlin III |

A great ski for the advanced to expert skier! This ski is stable at high speeds, makes a variety of turn shapes in all types of snow, and has heaps of energy. However, it may bog down in deep heavy powder, i.e. the coast mountains. I demo-ed this ski last year at Alta on a perfect day. The ski did everything I wanted it to do with ease. Go 10 cm shorter than you may be used to. I was on a 190 cm shaped ski, but the K2 Axis X at 181 cm is great for me at 6'2", 175 lbs. Resist your ego and try the less stiff Axis X over the Axis XP. I think you will like the difference. The only down-side to these skis is that they are no longer made in the USA, but in the new K2 factory in China. If you are looking for an American ski, K2 is not it. Customer Service K2 customer service is very poor. I emailed them with a simple question nine months ago and they have to to respond to me. I also sent a letter to the VP of marketing and he has yet to respond. Similar Products Used: Rossi Bandit X, Atomic 11.20, Atomic 9.22, Atomic 10.20, K2 Axis XP. |

This ski makes a wide variety of turns, seem to do everything well. Forgiving for a performance ski. Initiates and finishes turns very well and works well in crud. Okay in powder, but then, I'm only okay in powder myself. Softer than the Axis Pro, but easier to ski. Makes up for a lack of technique at the end of a long ski day. Good value for the money. Customer Service Great company, even though they bailed from Vashon Island. Still making great products, just not contributing to the local economy anymore. Too bad. Bought these for the start of the new season "down under" after having demod the Mod X. Took a couple of days to get my legs but find these have taken my skiing to a totally new level. These really are go anywhere cruisers that do all I could ever wish for with a degree of precision I didn't think could exist. Totally forgiving! With my skiing, they have to be! Similar Products Used: Bandit XX, Xscream,Atomic 11.20 |

Demo''d only. Stable and fast on hardpack, blasts through crud, a little unforgiving in the bumps. A great all mountain ski no powder for demo should be an adequate bump ski with practice. Similar Products Used: K2 Four,Salomon F-9 2S............. |

None Left a perma grin on my mug. Go with style wherever their pointed. Took my 6''1", 195 pound carcass and floated liquid turns in this California powder. Smash the crud and carve the cordoroy.
